1866

Reynolds and Reynolds was founded by Lucius Reynolds and his brother-in-law, James Gardner, in June 1866 in Dayton, Ohio.

1867

1867: Gardner sells his share of the business to Lucius Reynolds' father Ira Reynolds.

1869

In 1869, Ira patented a system for duplicating sales books that utilized an inserted carbon leaf, and a removable and reusable hardcover.

1939

A controlling interest in the company was acquired in 1939 by Richard Hallam Grant, Sr., ending the Reynolds family ownership.

1947

1947: The company opens an office in Detroit to establish closer contact with the entire business offices of the automobile manufacturers.

1960

Reynolds and Reynolds first entered into the electronic accounting market with the acquisition of a Boston-based accounting software developer in 1960.

1961

1961: The company sells its stock to the public.

1963

In 1963 the first centers were opened in Celina, Ohio, and Glendale, California.

1963: The company begins to expand in Canada, and in Ohio, California and Chicago.

1965

The year 1965 brought with it the opening of Electronic Accounting data processing centers in Burlingame (near San Francisco) and Chicago.

1968

With an eye to the future, the company installed their first third-generation computer in the Celina, Ohio, data processing center in 1968.

1971

Another major milestone was reached in 1971 when the company launched their first electronic accounting service, called Vital Information Property (VIP), with online capability.

1977

1977: Annual sales hit $100 million.

1980

ReyZon was soon (in 1980) purchased outright by Reynolds and Reynolds, forming Reynolds and Reynolds' Computer Manufacturing Operation (CMO). Soon the computer ReyZon had designed, TC 1000, was upgraded to include two new systems for the dealer market.

1982

1982: Reynolds and Reynolds announces a family of computer systems for auto dealers that includes networking--a feature new to the auto dealer market.

1983

The VIM/NET systems grew and expanded constantly, with the company frequently offering updated versions and expanding the VIM/NET reach into both France and Australia in 1983.

1994

1994: The company purchases PD Medical Systems as part of its strategy to begin its expansion into the medical systems business.

1999

In 1999 the company expanded its customer base with contracts to provide document management and other services to John Deere & Co. and TransAmerica Life, the insurance arm of Transamerica Corporation.

2000

In 2000, Reynolds also acquired the HAC Group, a learning, customer relationship management and web services company for retailers and manufacturers.

2001

2001: Reynolds and Reynolds is named in the top 25 percent of eWeek's list of "2001 FastTrack 500 eBusiness Innovators."

2002

In November 2002, it acquired Networkcar Inc. (now Verizon Networkfleet) and further developed its telematics device, CAReader.

2006

On August 8, 2006, Reynolds and Reynolds announced it was becoming a private company through a $2.8 billion acquisition by Houston-based Universal Computer Systems (UCS). The combined organization had a 40% market share in the dealer management systems sector.

Reynolds sold Networkcar to Hughes Telematics for $17.7 million in 2006.

2007

A series of legal disputes between Reynolds and General Motors (GM) began in 2007.

2008

In 2008, Reynolds acquired DiversiForm, a Beaverton, Oregon-based printer of forms and business documents for car dealerships.

2012

The company announced that the transition to the .NET platform would be complete by 2012.

2014

It acquired AddOnAuto in May 2014, which was the company's fifth acquisition in a little over twelve months.

2017

In 2017, Reynolds acquired Xpressdocs, a Fort Worth, Texas-based marketing solutions provider for franchise organizations.

2020

In October 2020, federal court documents were unsealed showing that Brockman had been indicted for charges of money laundering, evidence tampering, destruction of evidence, and wire fraud totaling.

2021

On June 8, 2021, Reynolds announced that they are acquiring Gubagoo, a leading provider of conversational commerce and digital retail tools for both automotive dealerships and OEMs in North America.
