    The Opportunity We are currently seeking a Senior Transportation Planner / Senior Transportation Engineer to join our Transportation Development team in Raleigh, NC or Charlotte, NC! As a Senior Transportation Planner/Engineer, you will work in a highly flexible, team-oriented environment and must have excellent communication, data management, and documentation skills. You will serve as a Project Manager, taking a leadership role in management, production, and quality assurance/quality control procedures. In addition to working with existing clients on the state, regional, and local levels, the candidate will support business development efforts by identifying and pursuing new clients to maintain a successful operation. You will bring innovative solutions to our client's problems and lead the collection and analysis of data, and provide technical and management leadership for transportation planning projects of varying size and scope. The candidate should have experience with successfully taking projects through the NEPA/SEPA process. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Urban and Regional Planning, Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited university. AICP or PE Certification preferred. 10+ years of progressive transportation development experience, with at least 5 years of project management experience. Knowledge and experience with NEPA (and NC equivalent), Section 4F, Section 6F, Section 106, Section 404, NCDOT Merger Process, including preparation of environmental compliance documents. NCDOT and municipality client experience is preferred. Proficiency with ArcGIS, Microsoft Office (including MS Project) is required. Experience with MicroStation is helpful. Experience identifying grant opportunities and developing grant applications preferred, but not required. Strong writing and presentation skills. Facilitation skills with leading public engagement and stakeholder meetings. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail along with overall quality control and management. Conscientious of project schedules (including Microsoft Project) and deadlines involving deliverables (including interim deadlines). Ability to track individual project tasks and financial management of individual and overall project tasks. The work environment and requirements described below are representative of those necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. **The Physical Side of the Role:** This is an active, hands-on role. You can expect to be on your feet frequently, navigating active job sites with uneven terrain, stairs, ladders, and hoists. The work is physically demanding and requires a full range of motion, including bending, kneeling, and reaching. You'll need to be comfortable frequently lifting and carrying materials up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. This role requires the ability to communicate effectively, as well as visual acuity for reading plans and inspecting work. The role does include desk time in the office that may require prolonged periods of sitting for tasks like computer work, document review, and meetings. **Your Work Environment:** You'll spend a significant amount of your time on active construction sites, which means being adaptable to all kinds of weather and moderate to loud noise levels, and comfortable in elevated or confined work areas with moving mechanical equipment and with the fast-paced nature of a project in progress. You will also spend time in a typical office setting with moderate noise levels.
