The Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the Shepherd School of Music SSM, Rice University, Houston, Texas, provides strategic leadership to advancing academic programs, curriculum, academic policy, and faculty support. Reporting directly to the Dean and working in close partnership with faculty, the Senior Assistant Dean, Assistant Dean for Enrollment and other members of the staff, the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs serves as a key academic leader within the Shepherd School of Music. The Associate Dean position is open to current Rice TTT faculty or external non-tenure-track faculty. Depending on the finalist's background, this position may provide a teaching release, but also provides the opportunity to teach one course per semester in their area of expertise. Academic Integrity and Standards:
Oversee the academic integrity process, addressing misconduct and promoting a culture of scholarship and ethical academic behavior.
Maintain and revise sections of the Student and Faculty Handbooks related to academic matters.
Committee Leadership:

Strategic Collaboration:

Faculty Affairs:

The Animal Resources Facility department is the backbone support for the groundwork in research developments and innovations by providing basic care for the animals involved in research and teaching at Rice University. Essential Functions
Energizes, secures, adjusts, and operates plant equipment including turbines, chillers, boilers, pumps, cooling tower fans, air compressors, generators, etc., to respond to changes in campus load or to comply with planned scheduling and/or load management procedures
Continually monitors all aspects of plant and campus auxiliary equipment and operation
Makes necessary changes and adjustments to ensure safe and efficient plant operation via direct inspection, monitoring systems, and assistance from others
Monitors forecasted weather to anticipate and configure equipment to minimize impact on campus and optimize plant operations
Performs general and preventative maintenance, equipment repair and lubrication, and quality and chemical treatment monitoring for water and steam systems as necessary to ensure optimal equipment performance
Monitors the Building Automation System for issues and alarms; calls appropriate personnel to respond to campus and equipment emergencies; responds to after-hours requests for building adjustments
Communicates thoroughly with other operators and supervisors to facilitate continuity of operations during regular shifts and shift changes; maintains all operations and responsibilities until relieved by the next shift
Informs direct supervisor or appropriate management of events and problems that may significantly affect plant or campus operations
Performs duties as lead operator to provide direction to second operators for the assigned shift
Logs events and operational changes in the operations record
Enters work orders and daily work time using CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
Performs all other duties as assigned

Must be able to lift loads greater than 50 lbs.
Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and work in confined areas with piping and wiring obstructions, as needed, to access equipment
Requires moderate to heavy physical activity, including bending, stooping, climbing, balancing, standing, and walking up to 8 hours per day

Position Summary:
The executive chef in the housing and dining department leads the culinary operations and is an integral part of the management team. They collaborate with other team members to oversee the dining service program, and they are responsible for implementing and operating an inventory management system as well as a menu management system.
The executive chef plans and prepares a wide variety of foods and supports food product preparation within the servery. They also direct and guide the cooking staff on proper methods of food preparation, cooking techniques, portion control, and sanitation. Additionally, the executive chef creates recipes and menus, updates menu files, manages food and labor costs, and advises managers on dining trends and marketplace issues.
In terms of staff management, the executive chef handles all aspects, including conducting interviews and orientations, overseeing the training of new employees, cross-training existing staff, maintaining staff schedules, and collaborating with temporary staffing agencies.

Workplace Requirements:

Work Schedule: Weekly schedule will vary and will include working on weekends and holidays - Must be available to work any shift required.
