Ridgefield Park Jr.-Sr. High School company history timeline

1871

The line ran west of Grand Avenue, making Ridgefield, with its hilly terrain, a scenic wonder for the riders.In March of 1871, the Township of Ridgefield was formed from Hackensack Township.

1873

In March, 1873, School District 4½ was formed, with David Brower, Jacobus and John

1880

Earlier public education in the Village had begun in 1880, with elementary school classes being conducted on the upper floor of Shiel’s Store, Lincoln Avenue and Park Street, a building which still stands.

1904

The High School Department in the Ridgefield Park Public School system, (then officially designated Overpeck Township Public Schools), was established in 1904 in School No.

The cornerstone for this 1904 addition is today located in the High School Monument in Fellowship Park on Hobart Street.

1912

Indeed, overcrowding resulted in high school classes returning to Washington Irving School, where they had last been in 1912.

1918

With the opening of R.P.H.S. in 1918, a full range of academic, athletic, and activity offerings were part of the curriculum and RPHS quickly earned the reputation as one of the finest schools in the area.

1953

In September, 1953, students from Little Ferry began attending RPHS, an association which continues to this day.

1992

Ridgefield History By Diane M. PollockIn 1992 the Borough of Ridgefield marked its 100th anniversary of incorporation.

2006

In March 2006, alumnus Gregory Olsen (RPHS '62), an entrepreneur who paid $20 million to become the world's third paying space tourist visited his alma mater to share his experiences in space.
