Ridgewood Manor company history timeline
Wilkins Township is the older community, having been established on November 10, 1821, formed from the southeastern portion of Pitt Township.
A farm of approximately 600 acres, located in the Ridgewood Manor and Suncrest Manor areas of Wilkins Township, was given to Charles Johnson in 1826.
Penn Highway, related that her late husband discovered that their house was built in 1888, at its present address, and was believed occupied, for many years, by a Gilchrest, who had farmed the area.
The approximate date of the first residents in this house was 1897, based on the City Directory.
In 1910 a bank clerk named Samuel Frederick Telleen, his wife Nellie, and their infant daughter Dorothy were living in the Bronx, renting a place on Tiffany Street.
Louise Gilchrest lived in the house till 1948.
He lived at 1011 Gilchrest Drive, in a house built in 1953, and was one of the original residents of Ridgewood Manor.
The tract of land had been granted and conveyed to Harold Land Company in 1954 by Louise J. Gilchrest.
Children began using the playground about 1958.
Gilchrest, then living in Wilkinsburg, sold land on upper Gilchrest Drive to Michael J. and Norma J. Fedak in 1968.
The Garden Club also planted a red oak tree (Liberty Tree) on the grounds of the Eastmont Elementary School to commemorate the Bicentennial of 1976.
