Position Overview Conduct tests on aggregate and/or asphalt mix to determine composition and consistency with required specifications. Assist in adjustment of mix composition to ensure asphalt mix within specifications. Monitor temperature, thickness, density and overall condition of pavements during installation. Assist and make recommendations in the process of the installation of HMA. Quality Control Technicians usually perform their duties during a shift that varies with the operation of the business, may include night work, and usually involves overtime. Duties are performed under limited or no supervision. Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions) The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: * Testing materials in a safe, efficient, and productive manner. * Identify and become familiar with various mix specifications requirements. * Monitor the quality of hot mix asphalt for and on specific jobs in a safe, efficient, and productive manner. * Test materials to determine specific requirements such as weight, gravity, temperature, thickness, and gradation of mix components. * Communicate with other technicians regarding mix specifications and test results. * Input test result data into computers in laboratories and remote locations. * Monitor the quality of hot mix asphalt pavement. * Must use and calibrate a density meter. * Communicate and assist paving personnel in adjusting processes to conform to specifications. * Report and communicate test results ethically, adhering to The Shelly Company Ethics Policy. * Must possess or have the ability to learn basic computer software skills, such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. Language Skills: Ability to read English language sufficiently to read information contained in specifications, reports, manuals and regulations. Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform intermediate mathematical skills, including basic algebra, geometry, and shop math. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. These tests include density test, flow tests, exotherms, screen analyses, moisture contents, bond detection, casting set times, workability tests, magnetic testing, etc. Complete work assigned in evaluating raw material samples received. Assist in the evaluation of all technical problems as requested. This could involve helping the Quality Assurance Department examine suspect raw material or finished product. This work is to be done at the direction of the Quality Supervisor, or Manager of Quality. When requested, write reports on work completed and observations made. Assist in the calculating, recording, and maintaining of up-to-date files on all tests and screen analyses performed. This role is primarily responsible for information exchange, by means of: tracking, archiving, and distributing asphalt test information from our production teams. The Quality Control Coordinator will work closely with the operation, quality control, and field density teams to maintain efficient and effective information exchange. ESSENTIAL Duties and Responsibilities: Create and maintain the procedures and system controls for reviewing, distributing, and archiving information. Assist the company with maintaining compliance by adhering to internal standards and external regulatory controls. Gather and analyze data from test results and create reports to present findings to suggest process improvements. Support the sales and scheduling departments by answering bid related questions, such as specification clarifications and mix design status updates. Coordinate the mix design process teams and external client schedules to ensure the proposed production schedules are maintained. Track and report mix related issues, and participate in generating conflict resolution reporting. Perform other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or equivalent (bachelor's degree in analytics and statistics is a plus). The Quality Control Inspector is to inspect the quality of the grating for all specified jobs. This requires knowledge of the job travelers that show quantity, grating type, material type, finish, and any special quality notes. The QC inspector will have knowledge of galvanizing quality, on-grip process, and quality, as well as acceptable manufacturing standards. The QC inspector will be required to know and implement the NAAMM standards. Quality Control Inspector in assigned Business Units. Work with all levels of the organization including, the Business Unit Manager, Supervisors, and Associates to create a smooth, defect-free process. Sample production from every station to significantly reduce/eliminate escapes from your assigned Business Unit. Approve and/or perform first-article inspections on a job requiring this level of oversight. Assure all associates are trained/certified (if required) to operate to perform the tasks they are being asked to perform. Assist in the training, development, and/or creation of proper training materials as required. Perform any required QCHECKs in the Business Unit. The measurement of effectiveness will be a reduction of IRRs in the Inspector's assigned Business Unit and no escapes from the Inspector's assigned Business Unit to other areas. Using gauges such as tape measure, calipers, and micrometers to measure products and assure Quality is built into the product. Reviewing blueprints and specifications to compare to produced goods. Check that the production line adheres to standards and procedures and complies with the Customer standards. Ask the Question: "Is there an SOP for this Process". Record inspection results by recording job numbers of inspected parts, summarizing issues and actions taken to keep production running with no significant pauses in the process. Use iAuditor to record the jobs inspected. Significant reworks, re-makes, and wastes will be input to the IRR System as needed. Helping train the production team on quality control measures to improve product excellence. Assist Associates in Transaction Control (Epicor). Help Associates attain defect-free entries. Monitor transactions to verify that the Associates are performing the task as required. Propose improvements to the production process. Assisting in the development of test methods and inspection plans. Help determine the causes of product defects and reworks. During product inspections, verify all equipment is calibrated correctly. Monitor the scrap hoppers three times during your shift and advise of any abnormalities. When needed, assist in the Sales Order Deviation Process.
