FLSA Status Non-Exempt Overview Of Acuity Adaptable Progressive Care Unit The Acuity Adaptable Progressive Care Unit New Graduate and Registered Nurse provides clinical care and coordination skills to every patient served in the unit using the Eskenazi Health model of care, Synergy. The Acuity Adaptable Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse coordinates with the patient, family/loved ones and other healthcare disciplines to ensure care is appropriate to patient care needs. At Eskenazi Health, new acute care nurses are welcomed to the organization through the Linda Hojnacki, RN, Nurse Residency Program. Designed for acute care nurses with less than one year experience and graduate nurses, the residency program supports the transition to practice and prepares nurses to care for complex patients and increasing acuity needs common in hospital settings. Acuity Adaptable offers all private rooms as well as telemetry monitoring capability. What Schedule Can I Expect? The Acuity Adaptable Progressive Care Unit team does take advantage of 6-week self-scheduling where team members request the days they work. We do offer a full time schedule which consists of three 12-hour shifts on either day shift (6:30AM - 7PM) or night shift (7PM - 6:30AM). There are no on-call requirements and team members rotate holidays. What Are Nurse To Patient Ratios? The department follows a primary care nursing model and typically utilizes a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio. Patients vary in acuity and complexity, ranging from Med/Surg to high acuity Progressive Care status. All nurses are supported by 24/7 onsite Manager and Educator support. What Does Training Look Like? Eskenazi Health has a dedicated clinical education team that works with new hires the first week on board. The orientation period is typically 12-weeks and during this timeframe new members will be paired with a preceptor. Continued support is provided by managers, clinical educators, and seasoned staff. One aspect that sets Eskenazi Health apart is there is a clinical educator and manager on every shift, even on weekends! At Eskenazi Health, new acute care nurses are welcomed to the organization through the Linda Hojnacki, RN, Nurse Residency Program.     This position reports to the Director of Revenue Cycle and works on revenue cycle improvement, strategic initiative analysis and supports ongoing organizational transformation efforts. As part of a team, position is responsible for analyzing, maintaining, developing and implementation of the billing software EPIC and the contracted Clearinghouse. Responsibilities Principal Duties and Responsibilities (*Essential Functions) *Analyze and prioritize request for system changes/enhancements. Identify potential problem areas and recommend optimum approaches. *Effectively works as a Team member to ensure quality of integration across system modifications. Ensure programs and related components are continuously reliable, available and function as required. *Ensures proper change control and documentation for upgrades and system modifications are correct and the programs and related components are continuously reliable, available and function as required. *Participates in the development, implementation and testing of application software, training materials and provides training as needed. *Review of clearinghouse software to ensure claims are being sent to payer in a timely manner. Watches for holds, payer rejects, and errors and works with staff to eliminate/reduce them. *Review of clearinghouse software to minimize errors for automation of registration through real time eligibility. Designs rules, workqueues and reports within the clearinghouse that runs eligibility to compare to the billing software so that areas of discrepancies are identified and worked. *Establishes new payer and plans which work efficiently with Real Time Eligibility by mapping, creating alerts and identifying trends that show an opportunity for improvement. *Designs and builds Clearinghouse software for optimum scrubbing of claims from the hospital billing system to ensure CMS, Medicare, and Commercial payers are current on edits being released from both systems (EPIC and Quadax). *Assists staff with claim issues in order to move claims through the systems and determine if it is a payer, billing system or educational opportunity for improvement. Performs other duties as needed and/or assigned. Qualifications Job Specific (Minimum Qualifications) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of UB-04 and 1500 billing forms are required.     Overview Responsible for effectively billing or rebilling all accounts to the appropriate insurance carrier by implementing billing procedures in a timely manner. Responsible and accountable for pursing collection of all receivables from insurance, guarantor, and/or any other responsible party. Responsibilities PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(*Essential Functions) Continually follows-up on outstanding accounts through contacts/inquiries to third party payors to facilitate prompt resolution and/or payment and actively pursues payment from patient/guarantor on all outstanding account balances after third party payment or rejection based upon hospital collection guidelines daily. Identifies and investigates delinquent accounts to for special circumstances affecting payment delays and recommends the appropriate disposition. Reviews bad debt prelist report to ensure that adequate follow-up/collection efforts have been performed prior to transferring to the bad debt file weekly. Phones patients to obtain insurance and COB information and inform them of financial responsibility and discusses various payment options. Prepare appropriate billing documents based upon current payor/hospital guidelines for all third party payors. Prepares and processes any necessary adjustment/coding changes on accounts through the system based upon follow-up to expedite the collection process and to ensure the accuracy of the account daily. Review inpatient and outpatient fins to ensure the accuracy and completeness of all documents. Reviews audit discrepancy report, pulls the account, processes the debit/credit adjustments, rebills the account to the third party payor and moves monies back to the insurance load. Qualifications JOB SPECIFICATIONS(Minimum Requirements) KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of UB-04 and 1500 billing preferred. Must have working knowledge of insurance claim filing, collections, and established refund processing procedures. Productivity Standards of 75 accounts a day, miniumum. Quality Standards of 95% A/R aging 90 days less than 30% of total A/R. Accounts on WQ's can not be aged more than 30 days. Mail and correspondence must be worked within 5 working days. Medical Records request follow-up must be worked within 7 working days from first request. Account rejections in Quadax must be turned around within 2 days of receipt. Follow up with UM or physicians office on Prior Authorization denial within 1 day of receipt. Bad debt accounts to be worked weekly and completed by month end. Resolve and complete patient complaints daily. Denial Write-Off rate needs to be Ability to prioritize job functions, work independently and exercise good judgment. Must possess good written/verbal communication skills, good organizational/analytical skill and mathematical aptitude. Proficient use of calculator and minimum typing (55 wpm). Basic personal computer skills.
