Its first class — four women: Luthera H. Adams, Harriet H. Brown, Susan A.W. Salisbury and Mary F. Spencer — was graduated in 1867.

The original three limestone buildings which witnessed the commencement of 1867 remain in use: East, Smith and West Halls.

1868

College Days, which first appeared as a monthly literary magazine in 1868, is the oldest continually published college newspaper in Wisconsin.

Although private and nonsectarian, it was given sup-port by the Winnebago convention of Presbyterian and Congregational churches until 1868.

In 1868 formal ties with Presbyterian and Congregational churches were cut, but Ripon would retain some ties to its religious past.

1893

The Ripon football team first took the field against Lawrence University in 1893 (Ripon won 24-6) to begin what is believed to be the oldest football rivalry in the state.

1908

He has received the James Underkofler Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching; the May Bumby Severy, Class of 1908, Award for excellence in teaching twice; and the Senior Class Award twice.

1911

In 1911, Ripon College’s debate team wrote the constitution for Pi Kappa Delta, now a national honorary society for debaters and orators.

1925

The National Forensic League was founded at the college in 1925.

1931

The National Forensic League was founded at the College, where the first national speech tournament for high school students was held in 1931.

1952

In recognition of its academic excellence, the College was awarded a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa in 1952, placing it among a select group of the nation’s top colleges.

1980

Cindy Hutter started at Ripon College in 1980.

1981

Barbara McGowan started at Ripon College in August 1981.

The award has been presented only four times since it was founded in 1981.

1985

She was the 1985 winner of the Storzer Award, presented to a three-time letter-winning athlete with the highest grade point average.

1995

Ruth Anne Gero Adams ’85 of Clemmons, North Carolina, has been a senior litigation analyst with Womble Bond Dickinson LLP (United States) since 1995.

Troy M. Youngbauer ’96 was a two-time First Team All-Conference selection as a linebacker for Ripon’s football team, earning West Region All-America honors in 1995, while also being named Defensive Team Most Valuable Player.

2002

Lorna Sopcak began at Ripon College in August 2002.

2009

In 2009, Forbes ranked Ripon 100th on the list of America's 600 best colleges.

2011

A set of 12 plaster plates that depicts a report submitted by TEPCO, the company responsible for the Fukushima Nuclear Plant disaster following the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

2013

David Woodward was the director of financial aid since coming to Ripon College in August 2013.

The Center for Social Responsibility was established at Ripon College in spring 2013.

The Center for Politics and the People at Ripon College was established in spring 2014.

He has served as co-director of the Center for Politics and the People from 2015 to the present.
