The Opportunity

The Team

The Capital Risk Team aims to provide timely and value-added insights that are integrated into how MassMutual evaluates, rewards, and makes strategic decisions related to risk, capital and value. To achieve this vision, the team is setting expansive objectives that build on its strong foundation with the view to increasing the impact and connectivity across the organization.

The Impact:

As a Capital Risk Consultant, you will need to be able to work independently, quickly understand and assess a situation, and collaborate within and across teams to ensure ongoing requirements and ad-hoc demands on the team are met. You will use your strong analytical skills to lead reporting processes/analyses/problem solving, derive value-added insights to support decision-making, assist in methodology and framework enhancements, and support execution of complex projects including broader initiatives underway at the firm.

* Economic Value/Economic Capital: Work closely with the Head of Capital Risk, and the Heads of the Credit and Market Risk Analytics teams respectively to understand the current economic framework and identified priorities for enhancement from a methodology, modeling and application perspective. Lead research and analysis into alternative approaches, engage with key stakeholders internally to drive consensus on critical areas, and ensure there is clear, controlled documentation for internal reference and communication
* Risk Appetite/Scenario Testing: Assist the enhancement and documentation of Risk Appetite/Risk Limits framework, and the production of quarterly stress testing related to Economic capital metrics
* Value-based Management: Support the team's ongoing reporting processes and analyses to produce value-added insights. Conduct research and development work on new value-based management framework and metrics to support strategic decision making.
* Strategic Initiatives: Support the execution of complex projects e.g., M&A, transformation of the capital risk processes by working closely with business partners such as Corporate Actuarial & Business Analytics, Financial Planning & Analysis, and Data Science to align data/tools/methodologies across the enterprise, streamline/automate workflow, expand our analytical capabilities, and advance the rigor, governance, and controls around the data/models/analyses.

The Minimum Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance, Economics, Statistics, Physics, or another quantitative discipline. Highly preferred ASA, FSA, or CFA.
* At least 5 years of financial services or insurance experience that required strong analytical and modeling skills.
* At least 2 years of experience related to economic value/capital modeling/risk measurement experience.
* Has strong data analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to details. Can drill in details to perform analyses and resolve issues and distill findings into concise summary of key conclusions and recommendations.
* Ability to partner with actuaries and non-actuaries and effectively communicate technical and non-technical information.

The Ideal Qualifications

* Brings hands-on experience of using, developing, transitioning, or implementing capital risk modeling platforms at US insurer. e.g., Stochastic simulation, VaR, ESG (Economic Scenario Generator)
* Leads reporting processes/analyses and supports complex projects, utilizing business acumen to manage potential issues and conflict.
* Navigates complexity and ambiguity, resourcefully identifies multiple solutions to a problem, and anticipates and evaluates potential courses of action.
* Experience across life and annuity products
* Data analytics and visualization skills (e.g., including Python, SQL) are a plus.
