Fire Protection Engineer (FPE)
The Position
The Fire Protection Engineer for Above Group shall contribute and support Fire Protection engineering, fire and life safety systems, code compliance, and risk assessment efforts for the firm. The FPE shall be a graduated engineer from an ABET accredited institution who shall directly contribute to the Firm and its success through engineering and design efforts. The ideal candidate will be capable of developing comprehensive fire protection plans and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. The FPE is also responsible for contributing to the growth of the team by leading and mentoring them in expanding their capabilities and contributions. The FPE shall execute engineering and design duties as required to ensure quality products.
The FPE shall be an Engineer registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) at a minimum (preference given to FPE licensed in Florida). Additional credentials are encouraged and desired.
The FPE is an Engineer by education and experience:
Ability to combine personal judgment with project information and knowledge of codes and standards to implement design criteria.
Has expertise in fire protection, fire alarm, and life safety systems. Knowledge and experience with HVAC, mechanical, plumbing and utility systems a plus. Priority given to experience with healthcare facilities, central plant infrastructure (boiler systems, chilled water systems), and aerospace facilities
Experience with HASS (or similar program). Knowledge of Microsoft Project is a plus.
Ability to work well in a team environment and as an individual. Communicates well with individuals in the organization.
Capable of interpreting information set forth in a Scope of Work, Basis of Design, field surveys and code research.
Project involvement: Engineer of record from concept phase, through construction documents and construction administration.
Directs and mentors subordinate staff, where applicable, of their responsibilities on a daily basis.
The FPE is an Engineering Designer:
Experience with hydraulic calculations, fire pump sizing, fire alarm battery sizing.
Designs layout of distribution systems and equipment locations in coordination with team members within the discipline, as well as project team members in other disciplines.
Proficient with design drawing software including Revit and AutoCAD.
Performs system calculations. Sizes and selects system components.
Reviews shop drawing submittals, and travels to job sites to perform field verification.
The FPE develops organizational skills including technical writing and time management:
Uses excellent writing skills to author basis of design (BOD) narratives, design criteria documents, Engineering Reports, and other high quality highly technical written documents as needed.
Uses excellent writing skills to edit design specifications; respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) incorporating information from project documents, specifications, shop drawings and design criteria; and prepare meeting notes.
Reads relevant project correspondence and maintains project design files.

Assist with editing specifications relating to existing and new projects.
Review submittals and shop drawings for compliance with the contract documents.
Research as assigned and respond to emergent issues.
May write draft reports to be reviewed by a professional engineer.
Assists in gathering information to respond to RFI's and review of change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
May perform job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress. Site visits frequently require a physical walk-through of site.
May coordinate specific activities on particular elements of a project.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Bachelor or Master's degree in Engineering required. Bachelor or Master's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred.

The salary range for this position to be filled in the Buffalo, NY office is $62,600 to $72,975 annually. This salary range is the range we believe is the anticipated range of possible base compensation at the timing of the posting. Job Purpose
Mechanical and Project Engineer with capabilities to implement and communicate an operational plan for completing a project, monitor progress and performance against the project plan; resolve operational problems, minimize delays, identify, develop and gather necessary resources to complete the project. Key Accountabilities
Create scope documents based on unit/department project requirements. Manage and/or support the bidding, evaluation, and selection process of contractors for the design and construction of Facilities and department led projects. Create project budgets and ensure accuracy in company investment prioritization worksheets. Supervise engineers and on-site contractors. Generate project tracking documentation. Determine and prioritize project tasks and develop project schedule and timelines in order to achieve project's final goals on time and within budget.
Support operation of Facilities mechanical systems including but not limited to centrifugal fans, burners, cooling/heating coils, pumps, centrifugal air compressors, centrifugal chillers, heat exchangers. Manage and maintain documentation for the site Mechanical Systems. Communicate critical updates to site system operators.
Manage FAC BAS/BMS (Building Automation System/Building Management Systems) specification, design, and operation. Create the planning documents for the periodic budgeting and approval events. Direct and collaborate with the site representatives to ensure consistency and optimal system performance. Present updates and core functionality to site leaders. Manage periodic updates and maintenance of system. Manage submission of yearly planning requirement documentation. Create roles and responsibility documents for quick reference and management of change.
Support FAC Operations with mechanical/electrical equipment design and specification. Apply analytical and trouble shooting skills to minimize mean time to recovery.
Train FAC Associates on enhancements to operations related to controls and mechanical/electrical systems. Provide support on an as-needed basis. Ensure reference documentation is available and easily accessed.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and/or engineering experience
3-6 years of experience developing, coordinating and managing mechanical and/or facility related projects
Intermediate experience with control systems architecture and programming (e.g., EBO/Andover, Tridium, Siemens, Honeywell)
Strong subject matter knowledge of industrial mechanical systems from concept through final design and implementation as well as troubleshooting and repair. Peripheral knowledge of electrical and structural systems related to a manufacturing facility.
Effective communication and presentation skills, customer focus (building productive relationships), Microsoft office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and AutoCAD capabilities.
Effectively communicate ideas to gain consensus from individuals or teams; demonstrate technical proficiency with expertise on some of the topics within area of expertise; balance multiple projects simultaneously; comprehend technical drawings and specifications; plan and execute special projects and reporting; work well in a collaborative environment.
Ability to balance the wants/needs of the customer department with facilities equipment service team requirements. Knowledge of Honda project flow, budgeting and cost reporting. Project tracking and reporting for PDCA and Nariyuki development.
