Metta E. Babcock (Sibley’s first wife) died of pneumonia on July 26, 1911, before River Ridge was built.
On October 22, 1913, only 6 months after construction began, Sibley moved into his mansion.

In 1946, the Sibley’s oldest daughter Josephine, put the farm up for sale asking $175,000.
All of the mansion furnishing including the library collection were auctioned off by the family on July 13 – 15, 1948.
The chimes in the Bell Tower were sold in 1967 by the White Fathers to the Eglise Notre Dame D’Anjou (Our Lady of Anjou Church), Montreal, Canada.
River Ridge was sold to Life Ministries for $150,000 in 1969.
The remaining 86 acres was sold to Delmar and Jo Van Meter in 1974.
In 1986, Philip and Charlotte Hanes began a project to protect farmland in Alleghany County, NC and Grayson County, VA — the area where the Hanes' farm, River Ridge Land and Cattle Company (RRLCC), is located.
RiverRidge Farm was established in 2005 by Dean and Denise Biechler and their children, Katie, Josef, Peter, and Reikel.
The Featherstone Cottage (the pumpers house) was sold to an insurance man from Erie in 2006.
The once beautiful red tile roof of the mansion was replaced with shingles by the White Fathers. It was for sale in 2008 for $159,000.
They still own the mansion and about 100 acres of surrounding property in 2012.
