Riverside Christian School company history timeline

1973

Riverside Christian School began in 1973 as a ministry of West Side Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev.

1975

The Drushals’ daughter Adah Irene also taught in the high school, held Sunday School at Fugate’s Fork, gave piano lessons, and provided care for her mother, who died in December, 1975.

In 1975 the Barnetts left Riverside to help start a Christian college in Maryland.

1982

A group of parents wanting a Christian education for their children came together and created Shema Christian School in 1982.

1983

Riverside started in 1983 at the Maryborough Christian Outreach Centre as Maryborough Christian Academy.

1984

1984 - Growth As additional grades are added, the school moves to a bigger space in Grace Baptist Church.

1989

1989 - Middle School A second location is needed to house the growing enrollment, so grades 5-8 moves into space in Immanuel Lutheran Church, just a few blocks away.

1993

1993 - Name Change The name of the school is officially changed to Grand Forks Christian School.

1996

The Maryborough Christian Education Foundation was formed in 1996 and purchased the land in Royle Street for the future development of the school.

1997

1997 - Flood A massive flood devastates the city of Grand Forks in April.

1998

Enrollment drops only slightly to 103 for the '98-'99 school year, so the school goes ahead with the ground breaking on the new building on September 4, 1998.

Following the erection of the first buildings in 1998, Maryborough Christian Academy occupied their own land for the first time.

2000

2000 - Building Project Halted Enrollment drops again to 85 and special assessments on the new building and land come in much higher than expected.

2001

2001 - Enrollment Increases Again Enrollment finally begins to increase again to '92.

2002

The office moves in last and school begins on time, August 29, 2002.

2002 - A New Opportunity A former elementary school building (Valley Elementary) goes up for bid in East Grand Forks.

In 2002, the Board took a bold decision to change the profile and presentation of the school the logo was redesigned and the name changed to Riverside Christian College.

2003

2003 - Preschool Program Begins Riverside Preschool opens its doors to 4 and 5 year olds to provide an opportunity for children to grow, explore,and learn.

2004

The College has experienced a period of of rapid growth, and in 2004 Middle School was started for Year 8.

2005

In 2005, Middle School expanded to include Years 7-9 in line with contemporary research in education.

In the spring of 2005 Adah Drushal passed away as Riverside prepared to celebrate its Centennial, a century spanned by the ministries of the Drushal family.

2006

In 2006 Senior School was introduced with Year 10 and developed in line with the Queensland Governments reforms in education.

2011

2011 - Establishment of PTO Riverside Parents form a PTO to enhance and support the educational experience and the spiritual growth of all the children at RCS.

2018

2018 - Winging it to Washington Riverside 7th and 8th grades embark on a trip to the Nation's Capitol after a year of intense fundraising.
