Riverside Research's Secure and Resilient Systems group is seeking a full-time cyber security scientist to support the low-level cybersecurity team in Dayton, OH. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside a team of experienced computer scientists and cybersecurity professionals on cutting-edge technology initiatives.
Full-time researchers will contribute to projects related to independent research and development (IRAD) as well as customer-funded contracts, with a strong focus on cyber and systems security. This role is ideal for early-career engineers or recent graduates interested in operating systems, system software, compilers, and/or secure computer architecture. Upon being hired, the researcher will work alongside experienced scientists and engineers to design, implement, and evaluate operating system and compiler extensions that protect critical systems from cyber-attack with security focused ISA extensions (CHERI, Arm MTE, etc.).
Responsibilities
Support research and development tasks related to:
Securing large and mission critical C/C++ software systems from cyber-attack
Software hardening through OS, compiler, and ISA extensions
Assist with systems-level engineering tasks including:
Low-level C/C++ software development
Contribute to prototype evaluation, data collection, and experiment execution
Document findings, develop reproducible workflows, and support deliverables
Collaborate with senior researchers and engineers on exploratory R&D tasks
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field and 2 years experience
Strong experience with C/C++ programming
Familiarity with Linux development environments, toolchains, and debuggers
Exposure to at least one of the following:

The computer systems we interact with on a daily basis are inherently flawed. By nature, many systems contain bugs and vulnerabilities. What if we could architect systems that think differently? The Secure and Resilient Systems group at Riverside Research aims to do just that. By leveraging secure input handling, model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and open architectures, we aim to ensure systems are secure by design, eliminating entire classes of vulnerabilities.
Riverside Research is seeking a dynamic and growth-focused senior-level research scientist to support research and development of bleeding-edge engineering security technologies. As a key member of our Secure and Resilient Systems team, the research scientist will interface with government research organizations (e.g. DARPA, IARPA, service labs, etc.), perform business development, work on existing R&D contracts, grow their research area, and develop bleeding-edge technologies for transition to the warfighter. The research scientist will interface with team members across Riverside Research locations.
The research scientist will contribute to a diverse team responsible for developing security technologies in a variety of DoD systems. They will get hands-on experience working towards and developing secure parsers, MBSE artifacts and tools, and other technologies in the interest of DoD partners. They will develop software and systems that use new and existing technologies in areas that these technologies may have never been applied to. The senior research scientist will perform business development in their research area and work to grow their field through pursuit of new government contracts. They will also contribute to technical writing in their research area.
The senior research scientist should have hands on experience in C/C++ and Python, as well as a mastery of the pitfalls of improper input handling. They should be able to think creatively to express why vulnerabilities such as Heartbleed can be classified as parser vulnerabilities. The research scientist should have extensive knowledge working with one or more of the following: network protocols, MBSE tools, secure input handling, and open architectures.

Help the group design innovative parser and data protocol capabilities
Lead utilization of existing tools and creation of new tools for DoD use cases

Extensive experience in experimental methods in thermal fluids, material flammability, heat transfer, combustion/fire, and an understanding of associated numerical methods are required. Research experience with advanced laser diagnostics in flame, experimental measurement in turbulent flame, heat transfer and failure analysis of battery is desirable. Also needed are excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated expertise in developing solutions to challenging technical problems.

• The Scientist will become expert in the interrogation of bench- and patient-derived high-throughput data sets to produce new insights into fundamental biology and to further the development of effective therapies
Qualifications
• Experience and strong proficiency in the analysis and integration of multiple ‘omics data sets
• Familiarity with high-throughput platforms for analysis of: coding and non-coding transcriptomes; DNA, histone, and protein methylation; chromatin conformation; protein/RNA/DNA interactions; and/or genomics, epigenomics, or metabolomics
• Knowledge of modern object-oriented and statistical programming techniques, and languages (e.g., R, Python, MATLAB, Java, C/C++)
• Knowledge of current NGS analysis algorithms and toolsets (e.g., STAR, Trinity, Tuxedo, HOMER, MACS, GATK, Galaxy), and comfort using local and cloud-based UNIX compute environments
• A strong background in statistics and/or machine learning, and knowledge of modern pathway discovery and network analysis techniques
• A B.S. plus five years' experience, or an M.S. plus three years' experience in life science research, with a degree in cell biology, molecular genetics or a related discipline (background flexible). Industry experience a plus
• Candidates with PhD's may also be considered
