The EHSSpecialist II has a strong understanding of applicable health and safety laws and guidelines and is able to apply them to varied field service, customer, and transportation-related work environments. Role Responsibilities:
Utilizes established environmental, health and safety risk assessment tools to identify exposures to health and safety hazards or environmental aspects that can result in harm to people, property, or the environment.
Supports the creation of site-level annual, environmental, health and safety targets and objectives and maintains EHS systems (Examples include compliance calendars, action log, equipment identification, and asset inspection tools)
Acts on and supports on implementation of operational controls required to manage exposures identified through the site's risk assessment processes. Examples include development of equipment-specific lockout procedures, completion of hot work permits, and oversite management of hazardous wastes.
Manages and performs EHS and DOT related functions at multiple locations.

Location: This position demands full-time, on-site presence. The primary work-site will be one of our Lake Orion, MI plant, with occasional travel to our Corporate office in Redford, MI. Remote work options are not available for this role.
Responsibilities
Works closely with staff in operations, engineering, human resources, and other functions to provide technical environmental safety and health support and direction to corporate and production personnel.
Develops annual company EH&S goals and updates monthly metrics.
Develops and delivers curriculum for New Hire Orientation and other EH&S training.
Directs the development of written environmental, safety and health programs and policies (Safety Committee, Safety Assessment Audit Program, Work Conditioning Program, Wellness programs).
Participates in new product/process reviews, including process hazard analyses, operator training, etc.
Supports corporate/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards.
Supports plant personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
Maintains corporate EH&S library (e.g., videos, regulations, reference manuals).
Promotes EH&S awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters and specific training programs.
Serves as member of the Executive Environmental Health & Safety committee.
Leads implementation of a hazard communication program and preparation of reports.
Reviews process-operating procedures/records and provides input for environmental safety and health considerations.

Conducts Worker's Compensation loss review with Plant controller.
Reviews plant safety committee meeting minutes and safety inspection reports and follows up as necessary.
Reviews injury/illness and noninjury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary.
Qualifications
Six years' experience performing in a Safety Engineer / Manager role in a related assembly environment are required
A Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in a related field
Previous experience and the ability to recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate action with firmness and tact.
Experience and a solid understanding of applicable federal, state and local safety regulations and industry standards, including ANSI B 11.19, RIA 15.06, OSHA 1910, EN 954-1 (+), EN13849-1, OSHA 1910.147, NFPA 70E, OSHA 1910.132, NEC Article 110.16.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) at an advance level
Possess a strong work ethic with absolute integrity as well as the professional maturity necessary to gain the confidence of senior leaders within the company and the local communities
Demonstrate a measured style with the ability to remain poised when faced with crisis situations.

Serve as a first responder for all injuries and necessary injury care.

Maintain all required Ohio EPA air emissions records and file quarterly and annual reports.
Maintain records required for the facility's spill prevention control & countermeasures plan (SPCC) and keep the plan up to date.
Make recommendations and lead projects for reducing the company's environmental footprint, reducing waste, and saving energy.
Direct activities of EHS Technician to implement and sustain environmental, health, and safety initiatives to improve culture and performance within the plant.
This position will adhere to the Battle Motors Environmental Health and Safety Program by following all safety rules, procedures, practices, training, and safe use of equipment; this includes use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
