The EHS Specialist II has a strong understanding of applicable health and safety laws and guidelines and is able to apply them to varied field service, customer, and transportation-related work environments. In this role, you will be the liaison to our global Environmental Health & Safety organization, and will drive site-specific EHS objectives for the Industrial Field Services Business. You will work closely with our site leaders to implement safety and compliance measures at their sites and with their teams. Although this role requires functional and technical knowledge, success is more dependent on providing information and tools that people need to do their jobs in a compliant, incident-free manner. Qualified candidates must be able to work an on-site schedule at our Bloomington, MN facility. Role Responsibilities: Utilizes established environmental, health and safety risk assessment tools to identify exposures to health and safety hazards or environmental aspects that can result in harm to people, property, or the environment. Supports the creation of site-level annual, environmental, health and safety targets and objectives and maintains EHS systems (Examples include compliance calendars, action log, equipment identification, and asset inspection tools) Acts on and supports on implementation of operational controls required to manage exposures identified through the site's risk assessment processes. Examples include development of equipment-specific lockout procedures, completion of hot work permits, and oversite management of hazardous wastes. Manages and performs EHS and DOT related functions at multiple locations. Maintains site-specific compliance assurance processes to facilitate the timely completion of EHS-related compliance, training and preventive maintenance obligations. Supports completion of preventive maintenance for EHS-critical equipment and processes and may assist in managing facility-related functions. Supports implementation of new equipment or procedures utilizing change management process. Conducts sampling and data collection required to demonstrate compliance with the site's environmental regulatory requirements, if applicable Conducts employee training as outlined on the site's EHS Compliance Calendar. Job Summary The EHS Specialist is a critical, high-visibility role responsible for the leadership, ownership, and continuous improvement of all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs. Major Accountabilities EHS Leadership & Culture Owns and drives the site's EHS strategy, working collaboratively with the Plant Manager and Operations leadership. Creates and sustains a proactive, behavioral-based safety culture through employee engagement, recognition programs, and strong visible leadership on the plant floor. Leads the development, delivery, and documentation of all required safety and environmental training programs. Conducts thorough and root-cause-focused accident and incident investigations, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Maintains authority to shut down production or specific processes immediately due to imminent safety hazards. Compliance & Management Systems Serves as the ISO 14001:2015 Site Representative, ensuring compliance, conducting internal audits, and driving continual improvement within the Environmental Management System. Manages and ensures compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulatory requirements (OSHA, TOSHA, EPA). Maintains and updates all official documentation, including OSHA Logs (300, 300A), training records, and environmental audit reports. Assists in the identification, analysis, control, and elimination of occupational and environmental hazards (e.g., LOTO, machine guarding, ergonomics, chemical handling). Workers' Compensation & HR Collaboration Collaborates with the Human Resources Manager to administer the Workers' Compensation program, focusing on early intervention, return-to-work protocols, and minimizing recordable incidents. Provides coaching and technical support to managers and supervisors to ensure consistent adherence to safe work practices. Qualifications Education: Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field is required. Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of dedicated safety experience in a high-volume manufacturing or industrial environment. Technical Knowledge: Expert knowledge of OSHA and TOSHA General Industry Standards is required. Demonstrated knowledge of ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems. Familiarity with IATF 16949 quality system requirements. Knowledge of any applicable customer-specific requirements. Core Competencies: Bilingual English/Spanish is strongly preferred. This includes tasks such as stormwater inspections, air, and carbon emission tracking, conducting necessary training, drills, corrective action team involvement, etc. * Interprets/explains/adapts corporate policies and procedures and assists plant staff in policy implementation. * Leads the incident learning process. * Participates with human resources in the worker's compensation and return to work process. * Develop, Track and Present effective KPI's that reflect status of location in EHS system. * Provides effective training and education in safe work practices. * Ensures maintenance and organization of required documentation and reviews periodically to ensure the documentation adds value. * Conduct operational risk analysis and maintains regular presence on the plant floor. * Leads the continuous improvement process for risk reduction. * Establishes trusting, professional relationships with managers, supervisors, and the hourly workforce. * Acts as the facility's environmental "expert" and emergency response leader. * Collaborates with multiple departments on sustainability initiatives defined within the Environmental Management System (EMS). * Manages regulatory and system inspections and findings (OSHA, EPA, ISO 14002, 45001, 9001, Internal and external auditing) Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES): * BS in Occupational Safety & Health or related discipline. (May substitute equivalent demonstrated competency. * 5-10 years of safety process experience in manufacturing. This position will adhere to the Battle Motors Environmental Health and Safety Program by following all safety rules, procedures, practices, training, and safe use of equipment; this includes use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
