1986

Later, in 1986, this was replaced by a city-wide 1-cent tax throughout Pitkin county.

1990

In 1990, RFTA signed a 6-year contract with Aspen Ski Co to expand their services and provide a dedicated service to skiers.

1993

In November 2000, The Roaring Fork Transportation Authority was created by voters in seven jurisdictions within the Roaring Fork Valley. Its predecessor, the Roaring Fork Transit Agency, was created in 1993 by means of an Intergovernmental Agreement between the City of Aspen and Pitkin County, who merged their separate transit systems in order to achieve economies of scale.

1996

Lastly, Aspen Skiing Company maintains a spot on the RFTA Board of Directors per the 1996 Expansion of the RFTA Board of Directors.

1998

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) recognized that this was a problem in 1998 and thus created the Record of Decision on the Entrance to Aspen.

2002

In 2002, the Roaring Fork Transit Agency was also merged into RFTA along with its employees and equipment.

2013

VelociRFTA BRT began operation in September 2013.

2014

In 2014, in its first full year of operation, VelociRFTA transported 827,000 passengers.
