1941: Trenton General Hospital was founded.
In 1958, an addition to the hospital was built that housed the first vascular lab in New Jersey, an intensive care unit, cardiopulmonary lab, a thirteen-room operating suite, and increased the number of beds by 287.
1971: Hamilton Hospital opened after moving Trenton General Hospital to a new, 43-acre suburban campus in Hamilton Township.
1985: Lakeview Child Center opened its first of six facilities on the hospital campus to provide childcare services for hospital employees.
In 1986, the hospital was renamed Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital after Robert Wood Johnson II, the former president and chairman of the board of Johnson & Johnson.
2002: Opened the Cancer Institute of New Jersey Hamilton, the county's only cancer center built beyond the hospital walls.
2007: Opened the Lakefront Tower, adding 64 private patient rooms for maternity, medical/surgical and orthopedic units.
In 2014, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Somerset Medical Center officially completed their merger.
In 2015, Barnabas Health and Robert Wood Johnson Health System signed an agreement which outlines the merger between these two health systems.
Additionally in 2015, the hospital opened The Laurie Proton Therapy Center.
On March 30, 2016, the two health systems officially merged and formed RWJBarnabas.
2019: Completed the renovation of the Cancer Center at RWJUH Hamilton, including the latest technology in the region and a bright and inspiring Syed Family Infusion Center.
