Roberts Wesleyan College company history timeline

1866

Roberts Wesleyan College was originally established as Chili Seminary by Benjamin Titus Roberts in 1866.

1869

Established by Benjamin T. Roberts & opened in 1869

Having first used a local tavern as a school, in 1869 a three story brick building was erected.

1885

In 1885, the school name changed to Chesbrough Seminary.

1892

In the fall of 1892 both Cox Hall and Roberts Hall were completed.

1893

The first public event held in Cox Hall was founder B.T. Roberts' funeral in 1893.

1929

Students laid a sidewalk between Cox and Roberts Hall in 1929.

1930

Named in honor Burdette N. Miner, Chairman of Board of Trustees 1930's.

1935

A four story, 36,000 square foot building built in 1935 and updated in every way, now with geothermal energy system

Carpenter Hall was opened in 1935.

1940

- As pilot of a torpedo bomber in 1940, he managed the first-ever surrender of a submarine to an airplane, and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross from the United States, the Distinguished Service Cross from England, and the Red Star from Russia.

1945

In 1945, it was renamed Roberts Junior College in honor of B.T. Roberts, the founder of both the college and the Free Methodist Church.

1965

Current home built in 1965 under President Ellwood(Woody) & Beth Voller.

1995

Through the generous donations of many persons, construction started in May 1995.

1996

The $8 million facility was completed in September 1996.

1998

In 1998, Roberts Wesleyan College established Northeastern Seminary as its graduate school of theology.

2014

Presidential inauguration September 26, 2014 and currently serving as President of Roberts & Seminary
