Quidel is looking for a Sr. Robotics Engineer to join our R&D Instrument Systems team at our Corporate site located in Sorrento Valley/Mira Mar. As a Senior Robotic Engineer, you will play a lead role in implementing our robotic automation strategy by using full cycle project management and leadership experience implementing cutting-edge robotic automation applications for our Instruments within Research and Development. This person will be responsible for the system integration, verification, and validation of robotics solutions to automate testing.

In this role, you will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to develop and integrate hardware systems for potential future use. The position requires the ability for independent precise detail design work as well as high level system understanding. Also required are excellent communication and leadership skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Design and conduct experiments and test pertaining to the resolution to complex technical problems.Actively participates on design teams, understands Instrument Systems goals and timelines, and provides leadership to ensure change success Implement and sustain custom robotics and human-assistive automation to provide ergonomic, poka-yoke solutions for assembly and test related tasks Leads and is personally accountable for high profile project timelines and milestones Defining opportunities to develop and deploy custom robotics, machine design concepts and computer vision solutions Ability to work with minimal supervision Maintains design change documentation in accordance with internal Quidel and external regulatory requirements as part of the design control process Generate reports to document experimentation plans and results Provides technical updates to management and is accountable for costs and timeline Actively communicates project status, challenges, concerns, and resource constraints to area management Writes design change documentation and executes/supervise associated activities.Maintains detailed and organized notebook records Aids in improvement of manufacturing processes Actively solicits input from key stakeholders Carries out duties in compliance with established business policies

THIS IS A FULL-TIME PERMANENT POSITION
THIS POSITION IS LOCATED IN THE BOSTON, MA AREA. THIS IS NOT A REMOTE POSITION

Busek is a spacecraft and systems company. While most of our work is in spacecraft t propulsion, we are developing a small space robotics program to address in-space manufacturing and the space debris problem. Our experience staff are flying our hardware for customers as the US government and the space community in general.

We are searching for an experienced engineer with robotics background. Our space robotics program is building a small spacecraft which utilizes optical and IR cameras, IMU (inertia measurement unit), LIDAR and electro-mechanical systems such as grippers and winch drives. The spacecraft includes its own propulsion. These systems interface to the command and data handling (C&DH) software which interfaces with another computer on the mother spacecraft. The system is attached to a mother spacecraft through and umbilical line that provides power and communications. The challenge is integrating the system into a small, low SWAP (size weight and power) system suitable for space flight.

Busek is seeking an experienced, talented and motivated Robotics Engineer for a fast-moving team creating advanced space robot systems as described. The effort includes working with individual components and integrating into the spacecraft by working with other team members to build the final package. Therefore, regular and frequent hands-on work in the lab building and debugging the manufactured systems, producing fully integrated space robots.

The successful candidate will perform hands-on work in the lab, interface with senior management and customers, leading and working with other engineers and working with fully integrated robots in space.

Ability to lead the work of a team the required communication skills to effectively interact with the overall organization is a plus.

Requirements

To contribute significantly the successful candidate will have:

BS degree or higher in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent with at least 5 years of relevant experience.

Practical experience with the design and implementation of robotic systems, hardware and mechanical, electrical, software and firmware components. Demonstrated software experience with RTOS, C++, and ARM are highly desirable.

Demonstrated space hardware engineering is desirable but not required

Systems engineering and ability to perform trades analyses is highly desirable

Ability to manage project resources, assets, schedules and interface with external customers is highly desirable

Experience with electronics debugging / failure analysis, capture and PCB layout software, both digital and analog product designs, embedded sensing and electronics, firmware development.

Ability to operate general lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMM's
