A full-fledged community college located in Rockford, Illinois, Rock Valley offers over 100 degree and certificate programs leading to such careers as dental hygienist, nurse, surgical technologist, firefighter, human services professional and computer specialist. Rock Valley also awards associate's degrees in the liberal arts and sciences to prepare one for transfer to a four-year school. Making the pathway to academic and career success as easy as possible, Rock Valley offers such alternative programs as the Afternoon College. This consists of accelerated eight-week classes held in the afternoon hours. Some of Rock Valley's other innovative learning methods include the “Eagle” distance education option and even an “iTunes University” which allows students to access lectures through podcasts. Rock Valley's extracurricular activities also serve as sources for learning as well as personal development. In addition to two student publications, Rock Valley has over 30 student organizations including a Japanese multimedia club, a music educators club, and a dental hygienists club. Career and academic counseling and services as well as financial aid for eligible students are all available at Rock Valley.
