Rockford company history timeline

1980

In 1980 a venture capital company, Camelback Capital Corp., purchased Fosgate Electronics, renaming it Rockford Corporation for the street where the company had been located for almost a decade.

1981

In 1981, Rockford Aerospace Products was sold and operations at Rockford International were moved from Elk Grove Village, Illinois, to Rockford.

1982

1982 brought a punch from Rockford Fosgate®, the Punch Power 360.6 amplifier.

1984

In 1984, John J. Rauh was named president of Rockford Products, and the company announced plans to expand Plant 3 on Harrison Ave. by 33,000 square feet in order to accommodate increased production of automotive front-end assemblies.

1985

Rockford Carbonneau (later Rockford Acoustic Designs) began production on high-performance audio speakers in 1985, manufacturing a line of woofers, mid-ranges, and tweeters.

In 1985 Rockford became involved the National Autosound Challenge Association to raise awareness of the new capabilities of car stereo.

1985: Company begins to design and manufacture speakers that handle amplifier output.

1986

Rockford formed the Rockford Technical Training Institute in 1986 to educate audio dealers and salespeople about the company's products.

1987

In March 1987, the new board of directors fired President and CEO Jack Rauh.

1993

Scott Deley had founded Lightning Audio in 1993 to provide the car audio market with power capacitors which prevented problems of power supply, such as dimming headlights, prompted by high level sound audio.

1996

1996: Company is profitable and begins to market CD players.

1999

Net income more than doubled from $2.3 million to $6.5 million in 1999, as the company began to use global sources for raw materials and certain components at competitive rates.

2000

Rockford introduced the technology in new amplification products in early 2000 and was granted a patent on the technology in August.

In 2000 sales reached $144.6 million and net income rose to $8 million.

2000: Rockford goes public and acquires Fosgate Audionics.

2001

For 2001 Rockford redesigned much of its product line, including the Lightning Audio entry level performance systems and Rockford Fosgate amplifiers and subwoofers.

2013

In 2013, Rockford Fosgate® unveiled the Rosetta Stone for modern, complex audio systems in the 3Sixty.3.

2015

Our 2015 T1 Slim fit woofer was created with a revolutionary design placing it in a class all its own in the speaker industry.

2017

In 2017, Rockford Fosgate launched a 1,000 Watt compact chassis amplifier, and produces music the way it was meant to be heard.
