1953

When the new wing was completed in 1953, SwedishAmerican's medical staff numbered almost 200.

1957

In 1957, the Management Services and Materials Management, now known as Finance and Accounting, Materials Management and Supply Chain divisions, were established.

1963

Presson earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas in 1963 and a master's degree in hospital administration from Washington University in St Louis two years later.

1964

By 1964, plans were announced to complete the sixth, seventh, and eighth floors.

In 1964, Administrator George Edblom died while on duty.

1964 – Saint Anthony Hospital physicians perform Rockford’s first open-heart surgery on a patient.

1967

Many developments unfolded at SwedishAmerican Hospital during 1967, including the renovation and relocation of many business offices.

1968

In fiscal year 1968, SwedishAmerican Hospital admitted 12,677 patients and 1,692 babies were born there.

Later that year, St Joseph’s Hospital in Bloomington, Illinois, was established, moving in 1968 to its present site today as OSF St Joseph Medical Center.

1969

On February 28, 1969, E. Dean Grout announced he would resign from SwedishAmerican on April 1 to accept a position at a New Jersey-based consulting firm.

1970

Presson had served SwedishAmerican as associate administrator (a new position created by Boulenger) since April 27, 1970.

1970 – Saint Anthony Hospital physicians perform the first coronary bypass surgery in Rockford.

1971

Boulenger resigned on September 1, 1971 to accept an administrative post with Samaritan Health Service in Phoenix, Arizona.

That year, the hospital expanded its outpatient services and achieved an overall increase of nearly 37 percent more outpatient visits than in 1971.

The Outpatient Surgery Center was an important feature of the new pavilion, although SwedishAmerican had offered outpatient surgery since 1971.

1972

In 1972, the hospital established an occupational therapy service and started a pediatric cardiology unit.

1973

SwedishAmerican completed construction on the ninth and tenth floors of its tower addition in 1973, adding approximately 100 additional beds.

1974

In 1974, SwedishAmerican developed the Regional Cancer Center.

1975

1975: A new, two-floor surgical pavilion opens featuring facilities for performing open-heart surgery and a patient transportation elevator.

1976

1976 – Saint Anthony Hospital changes its name to Saint Anthony Medical Center.

1977

Presson remained at the helm of SwedishAmerican until October 1977, when he left to assume a similar post with Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri.

1979

The hospital concluded the decade by opening a large, modern, fully equipped emergency facility in 1979.

1980

On August 6, 1980, the SwedishAmerican Medical Foundation was established.

1981

1981 – The State of Illinois moves the state trauma helicopter, or the “Lifeline” Helicopter, from Elgin to Saint Anthony Hospital in Rockford.

1983

Doctor Robert B. Klint, M.D., M.H.A., succeeded him as president and CEO. Klint had been serving as SwedishAmerican's vice-president and chief operating officer since 1983.

1984

1984 – Saint Anthony Medical Center opens a nine-bed Neurological Intensive Care Unit, the only one of its kind in the region at that time.

1986

1986 - First hospital-based MRI

1987

That same year, the Central Administration Office was established, renamed the Corporate Office in 1987 and today is known as Ministry Services.

1989

1989 – OSF Healthcare System is formed.

1990

In 1990, OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois was officially established within OSF Saint Francis Medical Center as a pediatric hospital.

1993

The accolades began in 1993 with the Rochester Institute of Technology/USA Today Quality Cup, which the health system won for its staff's contributions to quality improvement.

1995

1995 – OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center consolidates oncology testing, treatment and conferences under one roof with the Center for Cancer Care.

Two years later, in April 1997, SwedishAmerican announced its intention to merge into Peoria, Illinois-based OSF Healthcare System, parent of Rockford's OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center.

1998

After months of assessment and negotiations to resolve differences about issues that were important to each board, SwedishAmerican decided to withdraw from further discussions in May 1998.

1999

In 1999, SwedishAmerican received further national recognition for its commitment to quality.

1999 – OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center celebrates its 100th anniversary.

2001

In February 2001, Midwest Security Insurance Companies of Onalaska, Wisconsin, announced it would acquire Benchmark Health Insurance Company from SwedishAmerican Health System.

2002

On January 28, 2002, OSF Aviation, LLC, which owns helicopters configured and equipped for patient transport, was organized.

2005

2005 – OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center becomes first medical center in Rockford to achieve Magnet designation

2007

On April 12, 2007, Community Medical Center consolidated its assets with OSF Healthcare System and is known today as OSF Holy Family Medical Center and OSF Holy Family Clinics in Monmouth, Illinois.

2008

On September 1, 2008, HeartCare Midwest, Ltd., was purchased by OSF Healthcare System.

2009

In 2009, Cardiovascular Institute, an OSF LLC, was organized to provide professional services of cardiologists in the Rockford, Illinois, area.

2010

In 2010, the OSF Multispecialty Group – Western Region, LLC, was organized for specialty physician services in the Galesburg, Illinois, area.

2011

The Supportive Care and Employer Services divisions were established in 2011, as was Preferred Emergency Physicians of Illinois, LLC, which provides emergency medicine physician services to various Illinois hospitals.

2012

2012 - First TAVR heart surgery in Rockford performed at OSF HealthCare Saint Anthony Medical Center

2013

In 2013, Jump Simulation was established in partnership with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria.

2014

On April 2, 2014, Kewanee Hospital joined OSF Healthcare System as OSF Saint Luke Medical Center.

2017

2017 - Saint Anthony College of Nursing moves to new facilities at Rock Valley College.

2018

2018 - First Watchman cardiovascular surgery done in Rockford.
