1983

1983 -The Physical Therapy Pavilion opens.

1984

Signaling the wave of the future, Nash Day Hospital was opened in October 1984, with Brad Weisner appointed President of the new hospital.

In 1984 a construction project, consisting of a 48,000-square-foot addition and 19,000 square feet of renovation to the existing facility, was completed.

1989

1989 – Springfield Hospital celebrates its 75th anniversary with a modernization project, a highlight of which is a new Special Care Unit.

1990

1990 – Springfield Hospital takes over the former space of the Rockingham Memorial Hospital and begins offering emergency care, physical therapy, and laboratory services.

1991

In 1991, the Women’s Center at Nash General Hospital ushered in new technologies and advantages for expecting parents.

1992

A new birthing center also was opened in 1992.

1993

The surgery suite was renovated and a fifth operating room was opened in 1993.

1995

1995 – Springfield Hospital acquires a new ultrasound diagnostic system, which is capable of producing real time images of tissue without invasive surgery.

1997

In a move designed to improve the quality of health care offered to the residents of our region, Nash UNC Health Care purchased Community Hospital of Rocky Mount and assumed operational responsibility on February 1, 1997.

1998

1998 – The Precision Valley Free Clinic opens.

1999

1999 – Springfield Hospital receives full accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

2003

2003 – Springfield Hospital posts 11,685 days of patient care, 12,641 emergency room visits, and 216 births.

2004

2004 – Eileen Austin Neal, R.N., retires from Springfield Hospital after 64 years of service.

2005

2005 – Springfield Hospital receives Critical Access Hospital designation.

2008

Set on 18-hectares and renamed in 2008 following a $116 million redevelopment, Rockingham General Hospital now has more than 200-beds and provides a range of medical, surgical and emergency services.

2009

2009 – Springfield Medical Care Systems receives “Federally Qualified Health Center” (FQHC) designation.

2011

2011 – Ludlow Dental Center opens.

2012

2012 – Springfield Health Center opens in the former Fellows Gear Shaper building at 100 River Street in Springfield. =

2013

2013 – Springfield Hospital celebrates its 100th anniversary.

2014

In April 2014, Nash UNC Health Care became an affiliate of UNC Health Care.

2015

2015 – Lane Eye Associates, Springfield, VT, joins SMCS federally-qualified health center network.

2016

In May 2016, Nash UNC Health Care opened the doors of its new $25 million Nash Women's Center, a state-of-the-art obstetrical facility designed to provide the most comfortable and safe birthing experience possible for our region's mothers, their newborns, and their loved ones.

2018

In January 2018, Morehead Memorial Hospital affiliated with UNC Health Care, based in Chapel Hill.
