Job Description
Teaches children with emotional and/or learning problems and communicates the academic and behavioral progress of children on the inpatient psychiatry unit. Understands and integrates into the delivery of patient care the needs of pediatric and adolescent patients in regard to their growth and development process. The position actively supports the Hospital's and the Department's quality goals and service excellence principles.
Clinical Service
Provides daily instruction to patients with behavioral and emotional disorders.
Creates daily lesson plans and delegation of work for staff, students and volunteers.
Provides a safe, educational environment for the children (including classroom management
and maintenance).
Completes an Educational Screening Assessment as indicated for each patient (Inpatient
Psychiatry Unit only).
Communicates with parents regarding their children's educational and behavioral difficulties and
educates them about appropriate academic accommodations and/or specialeducation
placement options as needed.
Consults with school districts (parental consent required) to gather information about each
child's level of achievement and facilitates the child's transition from the program.
Facilitates and advocates for appropriate school interventions including MDC/IEP procedures
as indicated.
