Rodda Paint company history timeline

1932

In 1932, Art Rodda left General Paint to join Chet Peterson and began Peterson/Rodda Paint Co.

1934

In 1934 Chet Peterson sold his stake of the company to Art Rodda.

1941

Prior to 1941, Morey did not receive a salary from Art but was instead advised by Art to “take what you need”. But the time came when Morey decided to buy a house for his family.

1946

In 1946, Hunter Vogel recognized the opportunity in Rudy's paint business and purchased a 50% share in the company becoming co-founder of Cloverdale Paint.

1948

In 1948, to accommodate the expanding business, the Macadam Avenue paint factory was purchased and remained the sole Rodda Paint manufacturing facility for 32 years, manufacturing coatings for both the expanding number of Rodda Paint stores and toll manufacturing.

1950

During the 1950's and 60's the powerhouse father and son team opened branches throughout the Fraser Valley and Vancouver.

1952

John McIntyre, who would become a partner and Vice President of Sales, began his career at Rodda Paint in 1952.

1974

In 1974, Morey Braden retired and his son Tom Braden became President, John McIntyre Vice President, and Ken Peterson Vice President.

1980

In 1980, Tom Braden hired Steve Zimmer to oversee the growing retail side of the business.

1997

In 1997 Steve Zimmer spun off the In-Home Decorating Division, leaving Rodda to focus on its primary objective, paint.

1998

In 1998 Rodda Paint purchased Daniel Boone Paint Company of Seattle.

2004

In August 2004, Rodda Paint Co. was acquired by with Cloverdale Paint, Inc., in Surrey, British Columbia.

2008

Cloverdale Paint is an industry leader in quality control testing and standards and is certified under ISO 9001: 2008.
