Berkel & Company Contractors, Inc. is seeking a Survey Technician for our regional office located in Silver Spring, MD. This field-based position will support projects related to Auger Pressure Grouted Piling, Displacement Piling, Driven Piling, Pressure Grouting, Sheeting and Shoring, Ground Improvement and Micro Piling located across the Mid-Atlantic. This position ensures all required layout and as-builts for a given project are performed accurately and promptly to support Berkel's ongoing projects. Our survey technicians are expected to have competent technical knowledge and strong attention to detail.
This position offers the opportunity for growth into quality control supervisory roles.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Compute coordinates for use in layout.
Perform field layout and as-builts.
Preparation of detailed as-built reports.
Coordinate with project managers and superintendents to ensure accurate and timely completion of survey tasks.
Perform analysis of survey data and assist in the resolution of any discrepancies in measurements or documentation.
Review and cross checking of shop drawings and contract drawings, including but not limited to structural, architectural, and civil drawings.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a technical field preferred.
Professional Land Surveying License preferred but not required.
2+ years' experience as a Survey Technician or in a similar role.
Experience in preparing survey documents and conducting fieldwork.
Experience with industry software, including but not limited to, AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office programs.
Ability to utilize survey equipment and technology effectively.

SUMMARY
This role supports the technical and administrative support for survey-related activities. This role assists in compiling, organizing, and preparing mapping and land conveyance documents, ensuring accuracy and consistency in data, drafting, and documentation across project teams.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in reviewing and organizing incoming survey data packages related to right-of-way, property boundaries, and land acquisition
Support the preparation of legal descriptions and plat maps by gathering relevant information and updating templates under the supervision of a licensed surveyor or project lead
Assist in assembling QA/QC packages, including closure reports, research materials, and supporting documentation for review

Help maintain organized digital and physical filing systems for survey documents, plats, and legal files

Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
BA/BS + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Working knowledge of surveying principles including boundary determination, real property laws, and survey mathematics
Proficiency in interpreting and creating legal descriptions and associated plat maps
Familiarity with the California Coordinate System and its application in mapping and survey work
Experience using CAD applications (AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar) for surveying and mapping tasks
Understanding of relevant laws and standards including the Land Surveyors' Act, Subdivision Map Act, and right-of-way acquisition procedures
Ability to interpret survey data and perform precise calculations and measurements
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field
Certification as a Land Surveyor-in-Training (LSIT) or progressing toward licensure as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)
Demonstrated experience working on public infrastructure projects, particularly large-scale transportation or rail projects
Advanced proficiency with CAD software used to generate plat maps and legal descriptions
Ability to perform repetitive technical tasks with consistency and accuracy
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

Clean and open drains, scuppers, and gutters for inspection of drainage systems
Re-attach any loose metal work (flashings, counter-flashings, gutters, and downspouts) and seal for water and air intrusion to check for proper fit and water-tightness during the inspection process
Removal of accumulated grease, oil, coolant or any caustic materials present on roof membrane which could cause a safety hazard during the inspection process
Collect core samples and repair holes on all commercial roof types
As needed, perform minor repairs to prevent leaks
Make recommendations based upon inspection
Cross training on pavement, building envelope, and energy inspection required as needed.

What you will do:
Building System Surveyor is to support Johnson Controls Building Solutions HVAC sales associates in performing on-time and accurate customer site surveys and project design deliverables in support of the Global Center of Excellence Network. At a local branch level this pre-sales support role will work together with GCoE Application Engineers while proactively maintaining local authority familiarity, sub-contractor relationships and a working knowledge of the core JCI Controls, Equipment and Service product offerings. The Building System Surveyor performs a critical function as part of the GCoE network to ensure that JCI HVAC seller's pre-sale needs are met through a focus on high quality collaboration, professional on-site assessments, and by adhering to a standardized process and deliverables.
How you will do it
* Conduct timely and accurate mechanical equipment or control system survey and on-site equipment assessments at the local branch level to meet pre-sale support request needs.
* Coordinate locally with subcontractor representatives to obtain project bid quotes and pricing proposals in support of pre-sales proposal generation.
* Complete and deliver COE survey documentation and deliverables utilizing appropriate platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Office 365, SharePoint).
* In coordination with COE application engineers, review project costing estimates with local installation or operations management before submittal of completed deliverables to sales.
* Strict adherence to standardized processes and completion of deliverable documentation (site survey forms, floorplan drawing with device placement, etc.)
* Maintain a strong familiarity with local subcontractor resource availability and competencies.

* Support sales to provide installation/operations with pre-installation scope of work debrief to aid in a smooth hand-off to installation personnel as needed.

What you will do:
Building System Surveyor is to support Johnson Controls Building Solutions HVAC sales associates in performing on-time and accurate customer site surveys and project design deliverables in support of the Global Center of Excellence Network. At a local branch level this pre-sales support role will work together with GCoE Application Engineers while proactively maintaining local authority familiarity, sub-contractor relationships and a working knowledge of the core JCI Controls, Equipment and Service product offerings. How you will do it
· Conduct timely and accurate mechanical equipment or control system survey and on-site equipment assessments at the local branch level to meet pre-sale support request needs.

· Complete and deliver COE survey documentation and deliverables utilizing appropriate platforms (e.g., Salesforce, Office 365, SharePoint).

Join a dynamic team involved in various aspects of land development, including civil engineering, landscape architecture, surveying, and more. As a Survey Technician, you will play a crucial role in reading plans, assisting with house location surveys, conducting mathematical computations, and creating data cut sheets.
Responsibilities
* Read and interpret plans for house location surveys, showing the location of a house on a lot, including all improvements such as sheds, decks, and fences.
* Perform mathematical computations to process data collected in the field, providing specific positions of points needed for various surveys.
* Create spreadsheets and cut sheets compiling series of data for survey projects.
* Conduct traverse and stakeout computations using CADD software.
* Utilize AutoCAD, preferably Civil 3D, for surveying tasks.
Essential Skills
* Basic experience with AutoCAD, preferably Civil 3D.
* 3-5 years of experience in property surveying or large plot of land surveying.
* Experience performing boundary surveys, topographic surveys, and stakeouts.
* At least 3 years of experience working with Total Station equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
* Certification or training related to surveying is a bonus.
* Experience with the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission is highly advantageous.
* Preferred experience in Prince George's or Montgomery County.
