    Family & Child Program Assistant- Part-Time Akron Children's Boardman Campus If you are the kind of person who cares about making an impact and serving families, then you are exactly the kind of person we're looking for! Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Ohio, Inc. (“RMHC NEO”) is looking for a highly motivated and driven individual who possesses passion, compassion, and dedication as a part-time STAR (Support, Teaching, Awareness and Resources) Corner Teacher. The Family & Child Program Assistant maintains a friendly, caring atmosphere for families and children in need of supportive care services while visiting the Akron Children's Boardman Campus, located at 6505 Market Street, Boardman, OH. The position is responsible for registering families, managing, and instructing children, ensuring that the STAR Corner is stocked with supplies, prepared for lessons, kept clean, while upholding all STAR Corner and hospital policies, and providing resources or other support to families. The STAR Corner currently has the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This is a part-time, hourly position requiring up to 19 hours per week with a schedule established and agreed between the employee and manager. The STAR Corner Teacher reports to the Director, Hospital-Based Programs and supports the Hospital-Based Programs Team. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Conducts all activities in a manner consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of the organization. Registers new families and orients visitors/children to the STAR Corner. Familiarizes families with the Corner's policies and procedures to be enforced when necessary. Answers telephones. Maintains statistical records. Works with visitors/children on age-appropriate lessons involving healthy habits, medical procedures, positive peer socialization, and some school readiness skills. Provides each family with take home lesson information “takeaways” and other supporting materials to promote a greater awareness of community resources to help impact future well-being. Provides a satisfaction survey for each family served. Offers resources to families. Keeps Corner neat and clean to provide a comfortable environment for visitors. Picks up and delivers supplies to the STAR Corner as needed. Helps provide a warm, friendly, and supportive atmosphere for families and visitors. Establishes priorities for managing own work while staying on a focused, efficient path for achieving results. Acts as organizational ambassador and presents a positive image of RMHC NEO. Performs other duties, as assigned. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED with 2 or more years of experience working in a classroom, childcare, or pre-school setting. Associate or Degree's in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Education/Special Education or Family Studies is a plus. OTHER QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrate responsibility to uphold STAR Center policies and procedures. Effective communication skills and ability to interact efficiently as a team member. Computer proficiency, including familiarity with all MS Office products and database software. Must have a valid driver's license or State ID. WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT: Regularly required to stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl while interacting with children; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to use vision, speech, and hearing to allow for supervision and interaction with children. Regularly required to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. Each year, thousands of families whose children are receiving medical care throughout Northeast Ohio are served through our: Ronald McDonald House programs in Cleveland and Akron Ronald McDonald Family Room programs in four Cleveland-area hospitals STAR Center at Cleveland Clinic Children's Outpatient Center STAR Corner at the Akron Children's Hospital Beeghly Campus RedTreehouse.org, the online Ronald McDonald Family Resource Link The RMHC NEO Hospital-Based Programs (‘HBP') are special places within the hospital/medical center, near the pediatric patient or close to pediatric care. We offer the opportunity for families to relax while still being close to their child or be able to focus on necessary care. The HBP services include four Ronald McDonald Family Rooms, the STAR Center and a dental Care Mobile. INTERNSHIP POSITION DESCRIPTION The HBP intern will assist selected program supervisor(s) from one or more of the following hospitals/medical centers: Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital, MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital, UH Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital or STAR Center at the Cleveland Clinic Children's Outpatient Hospital. The role of the intern is to maintain quality services, to uphold all program and hospital/medical center policies, and to be supportive to the families who use any of our services. REQUIRED TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES Abide by and enforce all program policies including RMHC NEO and partnering hospitals/medical centers. Greet and welcome all visitors as you provide any service within our program sites. Inform families of various community resources and of all RMHC NEO services. Assist with program meal and supply deliveries and assist with meal preparation as needed. Complete at least two 3-4 hour shifts per week within our hospital/medical center sites (dependent on current hospital protocols). Assist site supervisor with various administrative tasks and data entry. Attend various staff and HBP team meetings regularly. Support donation processing by sorting and organizing received items. Complete any special project related to furthering the mission of our programs as directed. Create any special project for our organization as required by college/university (school-credit internship only). TIME COMMITMENT (Only candidates who meet the following availability will be considered for interview) Availability during the working hours of our program which currently ranges from 9:00 am-6:00 pm weekdays (dependent on location). A minimum of 10 hours per week. A minimum of a 4-month time-period and/or average school semester. QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS NEEDED Excellent customer service skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Ability to provide a caring and supportive environment for families. Dependable. Ability to follow directives and work independently. College level technology capabilities including use of basic Microsoft Office applications and office equipment such as printers, copiers etc. 17 years of age and at least one year of undergraduate work completed. Ability to lift 25 lbs. and sit/stand for extended periods. PLEASE NOTE Before an internship can begin and prior to placement at a local hospital, background checks, TB test, flu shot, and any other onboarding requirements must be completed. The applicant MUST be willing and able to complete these steps in an accelerated timeframe. Where Your Career is a Force for Good! WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: You will be responsible for receiving, processing, packing and shipping blood products/samples for hospital orders. You will triage the order based on date and time needed, select and carefully pack life-saving blood products with the correct temperature regulating product to ensure safe transport. You will communicate with hospital clients, volunteers, and vendors, and maintain product records to preserve traceability. As a Red Cross Team member, you will take care of your team members - show up for every shift and give 100% while you're there. Interact in a positive, proactive, and customer-focused manner with both internal and external customers, demonstrating care and compassion at all times. WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD: Key Responsibilities Ensure products/samples are suitable for release for distribution, while meeting production goals. Perform good inventory management practices throughout the manufacturing and shipping process Prioritize workload to meet production and customer requirements. Perform data entry associated with further manufacturing, labeling, storage, ordering, and shipping; maintain and review accurate physical and electronic manufacturing records Analyze and make decisions based on visual inspection and information provided from other departments to meet time requirements and quality standards. Identify and quarantine products/samples that don't meet quality requirements, and perform disposition of unacceptable product May make hospital deliveries as assigned The aforementioned responsibilities of the Distribution Technician describe the general nature and level of work and are not an exhaustive list. Pay Information: $18.36 per hour WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED: High School diploma or equivalent Two years' experience in a regulatory, distribution or manufacturing environment is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience Good computer skills, attention to detail, accurate documentation, and good decision-making skills. Position may require a valid driver's license Physical Requirements: Requires standing, stretching, stooping and bending for extended time periods. Lift, pull, push and move objects of up to 50 pounds. May work in walk-in refrigerator/freezers for periods of time.
