Responsibilities Tonto National Monument was established to preserve, protect, and interpret two prehistoric cliff dwellings, other archaeological sites, and the natural resources of the Upper Sonoran ecosystem. The Monument is over 1120 acres of desert environment comprised of diverse plant and animals including many species of cacti, snakes, bees, scorpions, lizards, and tarantulas. The Monument ranges in elevation from 2300' to 4000' and temperatures in this high desert location may range from 30 to 115 degrees Fahrenheit. This position is stationed at Roosevelt, AZ. This Biological Science Technician will be an integral member of the park's Resources Team. The purpose of the position is to perform a wide variety of complex biological science technical support functions. The incumbent will make significant contributions to the resource management plan. Major duties for the position will include (with limited supervision): Organizing, scheduling, and executing a wide variety of established natural resource management projects. Planning field projects, independently choosing from among several possible courses of action at different stages of each project (e.g., selects site locations, sampling techniques, appropriate equipment, logistics, etc.). Collecting and organizing field data using standardized data collection procedures and equipment; using judgment to apply precedents and established techniques to new situations. Ensuring adequate quality control of data collected. Performing field and laboratory analysis of collected samples. Recording all data collected and provides preliminary analysis and classification of the information. Making field observations of natural resource conditions.
