The MedicalAssistant will be responsible for reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for upcoming examinations.
Essential Functions:
* Provides excellent customer service skills by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner
* Prepares & reviews patient charts for upcoming visits by verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date
* Measures vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight and height
* Performs departmental-related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stock supplies, track referrals, and answer phones as needed
* Must possess the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly
* Other duties as assigned
Education:
* High School Degree or GED
Licensure/Certification:
MedicalAssisting certification from one of the following (required within 12 months of start date):

Essential Job Functions
* Understands and adheres to the legal responsibilities and requirements within the MedicalAssistant role.
* Identifies significant changes in patient condition through data collection and reports them to the provider.
* Troubleshoots issues and escalate problems to provider, direct supervisor, or appropriate internal resource.
* Demonstrates standards of excellence in care in all interactions, for both internal and external customers.
* Maintains clinical and administrative skills per the departmental competency guidelines to meet patient care and daily operational needs.
* Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician.
* Travels to other facilities for providers or adjusts hours to meet patient care needs as directed by the practice manager as needed.
* Maintains a safe and supportive environment by keeping the work area, exam rooms, and equipment in clean, orderly, and safe manner, ensuring availability and proper functioning of supplies and equipment.
* Assists patient and provider with virtual health visits which may include setting up the visit through appropriate platform, pre-charting the virtual visit prior to the scheduled appointment, contacting the patient to ensure preparedness for the virtual visit, troubleshooting virtual visit issues when needed, obtaining chief complaint and health maintenance checks, medication review, and other relevant patient details prior to the actual virtual visit.
* Documents in electronic medical records (EMR) accurately and appropriately.
* Manages in basket messages in the electronic health record (EHR) under the Provider's verbatim instructions.
* May perform front desk workflows (i.e., My Chart requests, patient registration, scheduling, phone triage, cash handling, and check-in/check-out).
* Follows up on orders, appointments, referrals, and follow up visits and collects co-pays as needed.
* Other duties include, but not limited to, ordering supplies appropriately, tracking referrals, labs and diagnostic tests, disposing of contaminated supplies, etc.

* Measure and record vital signs, takes patient medical history and chief complaint. Record information accurately in the medical chart.
* Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments and supplies.
* Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization of equipment.
* Assist with scheduling of tests and treatments.
* Prepare patient for examination.
* Phlebotomy, finger sticks, and collection of other lab specimens.
* Assist the provider with exams and minor office surgery
* Adhere to and practice appropriate infection control policies and procedures.
* Screens, manages, and follows up telephone messages from patients, referrals, and pharmacies.
* Prepare and send prescriptions electronically per provider's orders.
* Performs waived lab tests, EKGs, and administers injections.
* Applies dressing and remove sutures as ordered by the provider.
* Use CPR skills when required.
* Dispose of biohazard waste according to state standards.
* Maintain OSHA requirements and practice OSHA standards.
* Perform accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
* Must be in good physical condition and able to withstand the stress and demands of an active position.
* Manual dexterity, good eye/hand coordination and acceptable vision needed in daily work.
* Must have strong knowledge of organizational dynamics and have excellent communication/coaching skills.
* Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, the public, and other agencies.

**Essential Functions:**
+ Provides excellent customer service skills by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner
+ Prepares & reviews patient charts for upcoming visits by verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date
+ Measures vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight and height
+ Performs departmental-related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stock supplies, track referrals, and answer phones as needed
+ Must possess the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly

**Education:**
+ High School Degree or GED
**Licensure/Certification:**
MedicalAssisting certification from one of the following (required within 12 months of start date):
+ Certified MedicalAssistant (CMA); American Association of MedicalAssisting, Registered MedicalAssistant (RMA); American Medical Technologists, Certified Clinical MedicalAssistant (CCMA); National Healthcareer Association (NHA); Nationally Registered Certified MedicalAssistant (NRCMA); National Association for Health Professionals, National Certified MedicalAssistant (NCMA); National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
+ If incumbent is unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable (not accepted in the state of South Carolina)
BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)
**Experience:**
+ One year of medicalassistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required)
+ Two years of clerical experience in a physician's office (preferred, not required)

+ Possesses problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
+ Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner
