In addition, the Lab Tech Assistant will need to perform phlebotomy and specimen collection according to the established procedures to ensure that they are properly processed. Responsibilities include maintaining inventory, stocking, waived testing, and slide preparation.
Essential Functions:
* Provides excellent customer service skills by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner
* Collect blood specimens from patients, follow established venipuncture procedures, and transport specimens to the testing laboratory to ensure specimen integrity
* Provides support to technologists by assisting with the loading and maintaining of instruments, making up of reagents, thawing, pooling, importing, and issuing of blood products
* Recognizes instrument and equipment malfunctions and keeps appropriate person(s) informed of problems, issues, and resolutions as needed
* Performs departmental-related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stock supplies, answer phones when needed
* Must possess the ability to troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly
* Other duties as assigned
Education:

* Collaborates with physicians and other clinical departments, as well as Engineering, BioMed, Supply Chain and Environmental Services to meet departmental maintenance needs. Utilizes and coordinates with interfacility resources to meet those needs.
* Responsible for daily and bi-weekly productivity reporting; makes necessary staffing adjustments to optimize productivity and efficiency.
* Completes employee counseling and performance reviews. Exhibits an advanced level of positive communication skills.
* Applies effective conflict resolution skills.
* Uses diplomacy when dealing with employees, physicians, and others.

Education/Experience:
One of the following must be met:
* Graduate of an accredited high school or GED equivalency examination and have completed Fundamentals of Nursing course or a Nursing Assistant Program.
* Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) ยท Neither HS Diploma nor GED required.
* Graduate of an accredited high school or GED equivalency examination and have experience as a patient care technician in an acute care setting or nursing home; or experience with direct patient care (vitals and ADL job duties) in an assisted living facility.
* Graduate of an accredited high school or GED equivalency examination and a current Roper St. Francis teammate. Must successfully complete the RSF PCT Training Program upon hire.
* Graduate of an accredited high school or GED equivalency examination and have a current certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA). Must successfully complete the RSF PCT Training Program upon hire.
* Currently enrolled in or a graduate of an Associates or Bachelor's degree (in any field) with no experience requirement. Must successfully complete the RSF PCT Training Program upon hire.
Certification: Current certification as a Nursing Assistant preferred. Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Certification Card.

Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of clerical procedures and medical terminology. Skill in English grammar and spelling. Neat, legible handwriting. Thank you for considering a career at Roper St. Francis Healthcare! **Certified Surgical** **Tech First Assist** ** ** ** ** **-** **Mount Pleasant Hospital** The Certified Surgical Tech First Assist is a proficient level practitioner who assists surgeons and nurses with patients, equipment preparation, aseptic technique, and surgical procedures in the operating room in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of the organization. They will prepare the operating room for surgery by assembling routine supplies, materials, instruments, and equipment, and will obtain special supplies indicated by physician. They are also trained to set up and operate a variety of specialized instrumentation, manual and powered equipment.
**Essential Functions:**
+ Functions as the scrub person and may assist the provider as trained during operative and other invasive procedures by assembling supplies and equipment required for the procedure.
+ Prepares and organizes sterile supplies and instruments for the procedure and performs surgical counts with the circulating RN according to policy.
+ Maintains an organized sterile field and ensures the sterility of the field by taking corrective action as needed. Assists with the placement of sterile drapes. Provides instruments and supplies to the surgical team during the procedure and maintains aseptic technique.
+ Retrieves and collects specimens and labels specimens appropriately and correctly.
+ Reports any implanted devices, catheters, drains, and packing to the circulator.
+ Provides complete case preparation and knows, with the ability to adapt, of special instruments, supplies, and equipment needs for patient populations.

**Education:**
+ Associate's degree, Vocational Certification, or Military Certificate in Surgical Technology (required)
**Required** **Licensing & Certifications:**
+ BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
+ Must be certified by one of the following: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTA) or Tech in Surgery - Certified (TS-C), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) (required)
+ If employed in South Carolina NBSTA certification required. If certified prior to 2008 NBSTA or NCCT certification is accepted.
**Experience:**
+ One year of experience as a Surgical Technologist (required)
