The Center for Genetic Diseases at the Chicago Medical School/Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science is undergoing expansion and invites applications for a full-time, twelve-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of AssistantProfessor. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an extramurally funded research program in the area of genetic diseases including cancer biology. The Center seeks highly motivated and productive individuals with demonstrated incorporation of innovative approaches to study molecular mechanisms of cancer and genetic diseases at the basic science or translational levels. Areas of interest include but not limited to using combination of molecular, genetic, genomics, cellular approaches and/or animal models to elucidate the fundamental mechanisms on genome integrity and repair, genetic regulation, genetic editing to address unsolved questions underlying disease pathogenesis. New members of the Center will join a highly successful and collaborative group of investigators. Our university encourages and provides opportunities for collaboration with researchers in other Centers.

Research at RFU is organized around centers of excellence in discovery and translational science. The Center for Genetic Diseases is one of six such centers designed to nurture collaboration among scientists and clinicians, and facilitate relationships with potential industry partners. RFU's new 100,000 square foot Innovation and Research Park was opened in 2020. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to accelerate clinically-relevant research advances across complementary fields, including cancer and immunology, genetic diseases, protein biochemistry, brain function and disorders, and will facilitate growth opportunities with industry, biotech firms and startups also housed in the research park. RFU's history dates back to the founding of the Chicago Medical School more than 100 years ago; the University was renamed in 2004 to honor Dr. Rosalind Franklin's groundbreaking contributions to DNA biology. The ideal candidate would have an active research program that synergizes with the mission of the MCCNAD (*********************************************** a multidepartmental, multidisciplinary academic unit focused on 1) the care of patients with memory loss, dementia, and other cognitive/behavioral disorders of aging, 2) understanding mechanisms of cognition, brain aging, and the pathobiology of dementia, and 3) the development of more effective treatments for dementia. The appointment will be in the Department of Radiology (*************************************************** which is committed to educating future leaders of the field, conducting innovative research, and providing exceptional patient care and service to physicians. FSM has two 3T Siemens Prisma MR scanners 100% dedicated to research and daily research blocks on the 3 PET/CT and 1 PET/MR scanners located at Northwestern Medicine on the Chicago campus with several active commercial radiopharmaceutical suppliers in the Chicago area. The faculty member will have an office in the MCCNAD, a newly renovated space of 16,112 sq. ft. on the FSM campus in downtown Chicago. The MCCNAD is home of the NIH-funded Northwestern Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, which has an Imaging Core that the faculty member will lead and computing resources that include the NU/FSM high performance cluster (Quest, ~63,000 cores, 68 GPUs, and 8Pb of storage) and a local NeuroCluster that has 320 cores and 4 GPUs.
Responsibilities include conducting their independent research program and attaining independent research funding. The candidate will be the Core Leader for the ADRC Imaging Core at Northwestern University and lead the Imaging Core team to meet and accomplish the aims of the ADRC P30. As Imaging Core Leader for the P30, they will be responsible for leading a team that supports imaging needs of the research projects at the MCCNAD.
Qualified candidates will possess a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree and have an established record of research productivity and independent grant funding in neuroimaging related to aging and/or dementia.
