Department: Mill Services Maintenance
Hours per shift: Employee works 10 hour shifts, with two 10-minute breaks, and a 30 minute lunch. Must be able to work any shift including weekends. Must be willing to travel.
Wage: (DOE)
Position Purpose: Maximize mill efficiency via preventive maintenance, repair/modification of machinery, and installation of new machinery. Works closely with Maintenance Director, lead millwright, electricians, production supervisors, machine operators, and cleanup.
Position Functions:
Millwright Apprentice (Mill Services): Essential Functions*
These duties are designated as ADA Essential Functions and must be performed in this job
.
Perform preventive maintenance on machinery. Complete PM's as scheduled.
Repair/modify/align machinery - troubleshoot equipment problems. Repair/modify mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and gravitational components of machinery. After repair is completed, check/operate repaired item for proper operation.
Order appropriate replacement parts and record any further work to be done on “Work List”. Must be able to prioritize tasks in a hectic environment.
Install new machinery. Read and follow blueprints and other specification SOP documents.
Must show constant improvement and be willing to work towards getting a Journeyman millwright card.
Housekeeping - clean and organize shop and parts.
Operate forklift, manlift, hoist, crane, key cutters, drills, presses. Must be able to stay focused on the job at hand and finish it at a high level of acceptability. Learn to operate machine centers. Assist with pre-shift warm-up of machinery.
Weld and fabricate using arc and wire feed welders, cutting torch and track burners.
Work with a Safety-First attitude using the ACES as a guideline for all decision making.
Special projects as assigned. Work in confined spaces as required. Install new machinery.
Non-Essential Functions
These duties are secondary in nature and are not classified as ADA essential.
Perform other duties and functions as assigned by supervisor for production and cleaning purpose. Special projects as needed.
Working Environment: (1) Inside 90%, average temperature 80 degrees, extreme low temperature 10 degrees F, extreme high temperature 120 degrees F. (2) Outside 10%. Noise or vibration: Machine noise to include machine being operated as well as other machines close by including Forklifts. Hazards: See Job Hazard Analysis. (3) Atmospheric conditions: Dust: Limited, Mist: Water, Odors: Dry wood, Gasses: None, Poor Ventilation: None. The worker in this position will be standing on a slightly elevated wooden platform with rubber mats. The worker will move back and forth on this platform in front of an elevated dry conveyor measuring 3 ½ to 4' above the ground.
Personal Protective Equipment Required: (1) Eye Protection. (2) Hearing Protection. (3) Blue Atlas gloves. (4) Approved Footwear (5) High Visibility Clothing.
Physical Demands: See the attached Job/Task Evaluation and Physical Capabilities portion; this position requires constant use of hearing and vision, frequent bending, twisting, pushing/pulling and reaching, and occasional lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling more than 50 lbs.
Skills: Weld and fabricate using arc and wire feed welders, cutting torch, and track burners; ability to work with and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems; machine alignment; read blueprints; basic knowledge of electrical systems in manufacturing; ability to identify different metal compositions, work with a variety of millwright tools, and use machine specific lockout procedures. Ability to use fall protection equipment.
Communication skills - must be able to communicate effectively with Maintenance Director, lead millwright, electricians, production supervisors, machine operators, and cleanup via face-to-face meetings, radio, and telephone regarding troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, safety, etc. Must be able to write. Vision/hearing/touch continuously; reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, monthly safety training topics, and Job Certification if applicable.
Must have excellent hand eye coordination. Use vision/hearing continuously. Reading and speech required to communicate comprehension of Job Hazard Analysis, machine specific lockout procedures, monthly safety training, etc. Worker generally works alone with little supervision. Operators must be self-directed in identifying and efficiently completing each task. Ability to prioritize, organize and make necessary decisions.

(2) Always use our 14-step lockout/tagout procedure before doing any maintenance, clearing jams, or getting into machinery for any reason; be aware of stored energy. Job Description

Our Bioinformatics group in Durham, North Carolina, is seeking a Structural Bioinformatics Intern to advance protein discovery from metagenomic datasets. As part of a high-performance scientific team, you will develop cutting-edge skills in structure-based protein search, function prediction, and computational design to deliver innovative solutions for agricultural biotechnology.
Role Purpose
Apply structural bioinformatics methods to discover novel proteins
Develop computational workflows that integrate sequence and structure-based search algorithms to identify and rank protein candidates
Accountabilities
Implement protein structure-based search workflows using tools like FoldSeek, ESMFold, and Boltz
Perform structural analysis and annotation of protein candidates
Develop Python/Bash scripts for data processing and visualization
Document workflows, create user guides, and present findings to cross-functional teams
Collaborate with other scientists to refine research strategies based on biological insights
Share results and learnings at team meetings and educate team members on workflows and results
Qualifications
Requirements
Education
Current MS or PhD student in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Structural Biology, or related field
Technical
Proficiency in Python and/or R for bioinformatics (PyRosetta a plus)
Basic understanding of protein structure concepts (protein domains, structural alignment)
Familiarity of protein structure prediction methods (AlphaFold2, ESMFold, Boltz)
Familiarity with protein structure visualization (PyMOL or ChimeraX)
Experience with Linux/Unix command-line environments
Knowledge of sequence analysis tools (BLAST, alignment methods)
Analytical
Ability to work with large datasets and implement reproducible computational workflows
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Knowledge and Skills
Experience with protein structure comparison tools (TM-align, FoldSeek)
Experience with protein function prediction tools (InterProScan or ESM-based methods)
Knowledge of protein databases (PDB, UniProt, AlphaFoldDB, ESM Metagenomic Atlas)
Experience with HPC or cloud computing
Self-motivated with ability to work independently and collaboratively
Enthusiasm for learning new computational methods and tools
Experience presenting technical work to diverse audiences

Position Summary: Internship Program Overview - Midrex's 2026 Summer Internship Program offers an immersive assignment to undergraduate and graduate students, enhancing their understanding of the business world through valuable, hands-on experience with a people centric organization. Midrex offers a 20-40 hour per week, paid internship that begins with an orientation in May and concludes in August.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Assist with driving a Target Zero culture for Environment, Health & Safety with strong involvement and ownership from each Teammate.
Reviews existing written safety procedures, recommends enhancements, and revises documents with collaboration with Corporate EHS manager and other Teammates. Seeks continuous improvement and strives for execution excellence.
Reviews existing safety training modules, recommends enhancements, and revises PowerPoint documents as per collaboration with Corporate EHS manager and other Teammates. Seeks continuous improvement and strives for execution excellence.
Work within our Learning Management System to improve the effectiveness and the user experience of safety training modules.
Assist with developing key performance indicators (KPIs) for EHS.
