Rotork company history timeline

1957

In 1957, Fry brought Rotork to new quarters, a workshop established in his own home.

1958

The company established its first foreign sales agent in 1958, in Australia.

1960

1960: Rotork develops an O ring seal and Syncroset.

1962

By 1962, orders for the A range forced the company to expand its manufacturing capability, and the company built a new plant, in Bath, which quickly became Rotork's headquarters site as well.

1964

The next major step in Rotork's actuator design was the introduction of the Syncropak in 1964.

1968

In 1968, the company opened its first United States, Rotork Inc., in New York.

Rotork was launched on the London Stock Exchange as Rotork Controls Ltd in 1968.

1970

1970: The company opens a manufacturing plant in the United States.

1971

1971 saw the establishment of Rotork Italy, further solidifying our presence in the European market.

1974

By 1974, the company had reached an annual production of 13,000 units, building up its actuator sales to more than £5 million per year.

1977

In 1977, the company entered a new market, quickly industrializing India, where it entered a joint-venture manufacturing agreement.

1983

In 1983, the A Range 1600 Series was launched; it was the first Syncropak actuator with electronic control circuitry.

1984

In 1984, however, Rotork achieved a new breakthrough.

1984: Rotork launches 1600 Series A range actuator, the first featuring solid state electronics.

1985

Rotork had been developing its own dedicated control systems for its valve actuators, a process which was speeded up in 1985 with the acquisition of a company specializing in instrumentation and control systems.

1986

By 1986, Rotork was ready to launch its latest product, Pakscan, which offered microprocessor-based control over multiple actuator arrays.

1993

Further investment in the Rotork Gears Division began in 1993 with the completion of the purchase of Exeeco, a gearbox company.

1995

As part of this effort, Rotork established a specialized Fluid Power Division, operating from manufacturing plants in Rochester, New York; Leeds, England; and Singapore in 1995.

1999

1999: The company acquires Fluid System Srl, based in Italy, and the U.K. firm the Valvekits Group.

2000

By the end of 2000, the company had successfully launched the latest generation of IQ actuators.

The company also established its first wholly-owned subsidiary in China in 2000, as that market took on growing importance to the group.

2002

2002: Rotork acquires the United States company Jordan Controls.

In 2002, the Rotork Malaysia manufacturing company was established, following the sales company that had been established in that region seven years earlier.

2011

Six new acquisitions were made in 2011 alone, allowing expansion into instrumentation and control solutions.

2012

In 2012, Rotork launched the IQ3, which is the most robust actuator in the industry, capable of providing exceptional reliability.

2015

In 2015, the CK range of stockable modular electric valve actuators was launched.

2019

In 2019, the Rotork Master Station was launched; it can operate up to 240 actuators in a single loop from an intelligent control centre with a simple to use interface.

2021

In January 2021, Intelligent Asset Management, a cloud-based asset management system to reduce unplanned downtime using advanced condition monitoring and analytics, was launched.
