The college is once again reaching our to companies like FCAand Fanuc to provide state of the art training for new and incumbent workers facing the world of autonomous vehicles and advanced technologies like 3D printing.Formerly, Doug served as the Senior Advisor for Urban Initiatives working out of the Detroit office. his duties focused on the developments in Detroit, including around the NITC, Fort Wayne and RTA and projects in Pontiac and Flint.Douglas Smith served as Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Strategic Partnerships for the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). He worked with MEDC’s statewide network of local and regional economic development partners and chaired the Collaborative Development Council(CDC), directed MEDC's relationships throughout state government through the Interdepartmental Collaborative Council and oversaw state and federal governmental relations. He provided leadership in creating the Governor's Prosperity Regions.PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUNDSmith previously was Oakland County's Deputy County Executive in charge of the county's economic development efforts including industry diversification and commercialization of technology.
