Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Rowan Medicine, an affiliate of Virtua Medical Group Department: OB/GYN Reports to: Practice Supervisor Performs medical, clerical and reception duties to support the physician in the examination and treatment of patients in an outpatient setting. Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
* Prepares exam room and sterilize medical instruments and equipment for tests and procedures.
* Prepares patients for visits including:
* Putting patient in exam room
* Taking history and chief complaint
* Taking vitals including height, weight, temperature, blood pressure and pulse
* Performs diagnostic tests per physicians' standing orders such as EKG, Blood work, Vision and hearing screening, Urine dip, PFT's.
* As directed by physician, prepares and/or administers vaccines and intramuscular and subcutaneous injections in limited circumstances, which may be delegated under State Regulations
* Notifies supervisor to orders clinical supplies including injectables and vaccines, as needed.
* Assist physicians and nurses during examinations and procedures.
* Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for analysis.
* Assist with minor surgical procedures and wound care.
* Assures patient's outside testing results are in the chart for physician review with patient.
* Documents clinical information in chart or EMR system.
* Provides clinical care in accordance with training and under supervisor's direction:
* Laboratory tests
* Vision screening
* Audiograms
* ECGs
* Phlebotomy and processing of specimens
* Allergy Screening
* Maintains and cleans office medical equipment as required.
Administrative Duties:
* Schedule patient appointments and manage patient flow.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records.
* Answer phone calls and address patient inquiries with a pleasant and helpful demeanor.
* Handle billing and coding for insurance purposes.
* Verifies demographics and insurance information and updates in billing system.
* Verifies patient's insurance through insurance lists and/or via insurance websites.
* Collects appropriate co-pays from patients.
* Completes batches as scheduled prepares the deposit for pickup.
* Retrieves referrals for appropriate visits and enters in to billing system.
* Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the exam rooms and clinic areas.
* Maintains inventory of front office supplies and notifies supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
* Signs in and out to the answering service daily as directed.
* Arranges for patient care services at other facilities, including surgeries, preadmission testing, etc.
* Calls for pre-authorizations and pre-certifications as required by the patient's insurer.
* Coordinates requests for prescriptions from patients, provides chart to physician, telephones prescriptions at the direction of the physicians, and makes notation in the patient chart with date and signature.
* Handles incoming and outgoing mail.
* Pulls patient charts for next day and prepares chart.
* Opens and closes offices as assigned by supervisor. Activates and deactivates security system as assigned by supervisor.
* Maintains a professional and orderly office appearance.

This role involves teaching phlebotomy and medical laboratory skills to prepare students for careers as phlebotomy or laboratory assistants and specimen accessions. The instructor leverages educational technologies and college resources to support student learning and fosters an engaging environment that emphasizes participation, interpersonal skills, and quality patient care. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate student records, delivering instruction in both on-site and online formats, and employing active learning strategies suited to diverse learning styles. The curriculum prepares students for national certification by covering key topics such as anatomy, medical terminology, legal and safety standards, and lab procedures. Hands-on training is emphasized to reinforce classroom instruction and ensure clinical readiness. The instructor also provides mentorship during clinical experiences and collaborates with colleagues to enhance course materials and instruction while maintaining effective communication with students and affiliated personnel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Deliver didactic instruction and facilitate hands-on learning in a simulated laboratory environment.
* Guide students through activities in a controlled lab setting focused on proper specimen preparation and processing, including specimen acceptability, ordering, accessioning, aliquoting, transportation, and distribution to in-house and reference laboratories.
* Provide comprehensive training in quality control procedures, waived and point-of-care testing, and data entry using a laboratory information system.
* Instruct students in proper phlebotomy technique and laboratory specimen handing, medical terminology, safety protocols, and best practices.
* Maintain accurate records on all students, including but not limited to attendance records, schedules and course requirements regarding hours of instruction and content
* Evaluate student performance and document students' progress through testing, observation, and assessment of skills attained.
* Provide constructive feedback and maintain a supportive and confidential learning environment.
* Perform all other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May supervise work-study students or other supportive personnel.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work conditions include laboratory and office environment and may include both West Windsor Campus, James Kerney Campus, and off-site locations.
ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
* Positions in this class typically require: ability to use a key board, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
* Light Work: This category involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Jobs classified as light work typically require walking or standing to a significant degree.
* Flexible work hours: The role may require evening/weekend hours.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
* Strong knowledge of laboratory operations, including specimen collection, handling, testing methodologies, and quality assurance principles.
* Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and accreditation standards, such as CLIA, CAP, and OSHA.
* Knowledge of the discipline including interpretation and evaluation of the theories within the discipline.
* Learn and use technology to enhance laboratory teaching when appropriate.
* Participate in professional development in the subject matter.
* Ability to develop a rapport with the Dean, Program Coordinators, Faculty and students to ensure successful delivery of laboratory instruction.
* Develops project plans; coordinates projects; communicates changes and progress; completes projects on time and budget.
* Prioritizes and plans work activities; uses time efficiently; plans for additional resources; Sets goals and objectives; develops realistic action plans.
* Ability to handle confidential matters with appropriate discretion and adherence to FERPA regulations.
* Ability to work successfully with diverse individuals and groups with various levels of education and demonstrated commitment to the value of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor's degree in a related field.
* One or more years of laboratory experience in the appropriate or related discipline.
* Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) or equivalent certification.
* Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or closely related field.
* One or more semester's experience teaching
