Working at Rowland Hall has been an amazing experience. The school has a great reputation, and I really enjoy being part of such a respected institution. The benefits are hard to beat, too—free lunch every day, 21 paid holidays, and 4 weeks of PTO with an additional 2 weeks of sick leave. I also love the school schedule, which is 8-4, giving me a great work-life balance. Plus, the community here is so supportive, and it feels great to know that the work I do is making a positive impact on students' lives.
Overall, working at Rowland Hall has been great, but there are a few things to keep in mind. The workload can get pretty busy, especially during certain times like the start of school or when events are happening, so it’s not always smooth sailing. As a private school, there can be some budget limits, which means resources can be tight in some areas. The high expectations are awesome for growth, but they can also feel like a bit of pressure at times.
My favorite perk has to be the free lunch. It’s such a nice touch and makes those busy days a little easier. It’s also great to have 21 paid holidays, 4 weeks of PTO, and 2 weeks of sick leave—really helps with work-life balance and taking time when I need it.
What I like best about the CEO and leadership team is how down-to-earth and approachable they are. They really listen to staff and make sure everyone’s voice is heard, which makes a big difference. They're super passionate about the school’s mission, and that energy definitely spreads throughout the team. It’s a place where you feel motivated to do your best, and the leadership is all about supporting growth and new ideas.
If I were to tweak the company culture a bit, I’d focus on bridging the gap between the two campuses. Right now, they feel a little different from each other, which can create a bit of separation. But with the new high school building being built and the campuses merging next year, that’s definitely going to change! I think more opportunities for the teams from both campuses to hang out and collaborate could be fun, and it’d make everyone feel more connected. Maybe a few more casual events to get people together would be a great way to build that vibe.
I checked out their website and social media. Coming from the independent school world, I’ve noticed Rowland Hall is pretty similar to a lot of national schools in terms of how they present themselves online. I get a good sense of their mission, culture, and recent happenings, which helps me get in the right mindset for the interview. Plus, it’s always good to be familiar with what’s going on at the school so I can ask relevant questions or connect the dots during the conversation.
Rowland Hall has recently made a shift to a more market-driven approach when it comes to compensation. Instead of being a couple years behind the SLC school district, they’re now comparing salaries to both SLC and national averages. They’re aiming to pay at around the 75th percentile, which helps them stay competitive and attract great talent. It’s a smart move that keeps things aligned with the broader market while still being mindful of budget.
Rowland Hall’s leadership team is predominantly female, which I think is really inspiring. It sets a strong example and creates a sense of empowerment within the school, especially as women hold key decision-making roles. Alongside this, the school has been committed to DEI for over a decade, long before it became a trend. Despite the recent pushback against DEI initiatives, Rowland Hall has no intention of backing down. The combination of female leadership and a strong focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion creates a culture that is both empowering and forward-thinking, ensuring everyone feels heard and valued.
The thing that brings me the most joy at work is definitely seeing the impact we have on students. It’s rewarding knowing that what we do helps shape their future, even in the little moments. I also love the sense of community at Rowland Hall—the people here are awesome and everyone’s working toward the same goal. It just feels good to be part of a place where collaboration and making a difference are the focus.
