Royal Concrete company history timeline

1824

A method for producing Portland cement was patented by Joseph Aspdin in 1824.

1842

The earliest recorded use of concrete pipe in the United States is a sewer installation built in 1842 at Mohawk, N.Y. Other New England cities followed suit and installed concrete pipelines in the second half of the nineteenth century.

1857

Ritzman was born in Switzerland on October 27, 1857 and immigrated to the United States as a young man.

1904

In the years following the construction of the Ingalls Building in 1904, most high-rise buildings were made of steel.

1906

The Ritzman Cement Company was opened in 1906 by John Ritzman on South 9th Street, in the former location of a smelter.

1907

The hotel was built by Ritzman and run by him and his wife according to an article in the Cañon City Record on December 12, 1907.

1913

The first concrete mixed off site and delivered to a construction site was effectively done in Baltimore, United States in 1913, just before the First World War.

1915

Ritzman passed away from an affliction of his stomach in Cañon City on April 15, 1915 and is buried in Lakeside Cemetery.

1926

The first concept of transit mixer was also born in 1926 in the United States.

1930

In 1930, air-entraining agents were developed that greatly increased concrete’s resistance to freezing and improved its workability.

1962

Royal Concrete and Mosaic Works is a privately owned company, founded in 1962, by Popatbhai Solanki.

Construction in 1962 of Bertrand Goldberg’s 60-story Twin Towers in Chicago sparked renewed interest in using reinforced concrete for high-rises.

1970

In 1970, the Bomanite Corp. used Brad Bowman’s patents to encourage contractors to install decorative concrete using his process.

1991

The polished concrete trend began in Europe in 1991, about eight years before appearing in the United States.

2012

Website launched on 23rd March, 2012

2014

In 2014, around 4.2 billion metric tons of cement were produced.
