Its a very friendly, professional, organized organization. If you are a camera op or a graphics guy Rush is a great place to get two feet in the door of the sports live stream world. Good gear and great people!
Its mostly freelance work so it's a little come and go. Some weeks are busy, the day rates are pretty good, and you make a check. Other weeks or other times during the month there may not be anything scheduled.
I did college sporting events and womans pro soccer around the NY and DC. It's a great, healthy, enthusiastic environment.
I had maybe four or five on-site producers / directors. They were all very professional, friendly, and gave clear direction as to what was expected.
Can't think of any needed improvements.
Seriously, I saw on craigslist that a company was hiring a camera operator to join a crew at a college soccer match. I must of sent 10 resumes repeatedly over the span of a couple weeks and I probably called the number listed just as many times over the same period of time. I did the game, asked if there was more work, offered to be available in NYC too, and began to pick up steady dates.
Average to just above average. In my experience only higher-end live broadcast television (local or network) work pays more for that sort of live multi-camera live remote work. They pay as well or a bit better than most other sports streaming situations.
We had guys from all age groups and ethnic backgrounds. It does help to fit in with athletics but you don't need to be a total jock, just a fan of sporting events and know a bit about the game. Not a lot of women but I'm not sure many applied. If they did I'm sure they'd be welcomed. The cameras were usually set-up, we just showed up and operated.
As someone who grew up watching a lot of NCAA and NHL hockey as well as some MLB, NBA, and NFL games this was a great job.
