Rush Truck Insurance Services is an independent insurance retailer established in 1980 that provides insurance solutions for fleets of five or more Class 8 commercial vehicles.
By 1990, he was joined by his sons, Robin Rush and W.M. "Rusty" Rush.
Rush asked his sons in 1992 whether they should sell Rush Enterprises, and they convinced him to expand the business instead, establishing a lofty goal of becoming a $1 billion company by the end of the decade.
By 1995, Rush Enterprises was the largest Peterbilt truck dealer in North America, accounting for 14 percent of all sales.
Total revenues reached $269 million in 1995, a 30 percent increase over the year before.
1995: Rush Enterprises is incorporated.
By 1996, the company had grown to a point that the time was right for Rush Enterprises to go public.
1997: A construction equipment division is formed.
In February 1998, it formed a retail center division, Rush Retail Centers, in preparation of the $10.5 million purchase of D&D Farm and Ranch Supermarket, Inc.
Rush Enterprises added five Peterbilt truck dealerships in Arizona and New Mexico in October 1999 through the acquisition of Phoenix-based Southwest Peterbilt Inc., paying nearly $24 million.
Stores would be opened in the Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth areas, and in 2000 Rush Enterprises supplemented D&D's business by acquiring Smith Bros.
In August 2001, it paid approximately $2.5 million in cash for El Paso Great Basin Trucks Inc., picking up two Peterbilt truck dealerships in El Paso and Las Cruces, Texas.
In a deal that closed in 2003, it paid $5.4 million to acquire Orange County Truck and Trailers, Inc., adding three central Florida Peterbilt dealerships.
In 2004, Rush Enterprises exceeded $1 billion in revenue, reaching the ambitious goal set by the company just over a decade before, and completed its second public offering.
Later in 2006, the company acquired its first Ford location, in Denver, Colorado.
In 2006, Marvin’s son, W.M. “Rusty” Rush, became the President and Chief Executive Officer of Rush Enterprises, a position he holds to this day.
In 2008, Rush acquired its first Navistar® dealerships, with more than 50 to be added in the ensuing years.
The company began its partnership with Stewart-Haas Racing in 2010, giving the company tremendous exposure to the community of NASCAR fans, many of which work in the commercial transportation industry.
New businesses came on board as well, with Rush Bus Centers and Rush Towing Systems making their debuts followed by the establishment of Custom Vehicle Solutions in 2011.
In 2015, the company further committed to its vehicle aftermarket business with the launch of the RushCare portfolio of services.
