1795 & 1815 - Queens College Grammar School remains open while Queens College (Rutgers) closes.
1825 - Queens College opens again and takes the name Rutgers College to honor the Revolutionary War leader and philanthropist Col.
In 1830, the Rutgers College Grammar School moved to a building designed and constructed by local architect and builder Nicholas Wyckoff, at the corner of College Avenue and Somerset Street.
1866 - First Japanese students enroll.
The team captain, William J. Leggett, was a member of the RPS faculty.1892 - First female graduates.
1952 - RPS ends its boarding program and becomes fully coeducational.
In early 1958, Rutgers Prep purchased the Wells Estate (also known as Elm Farm) in nearby Somerset.
The Upper School remained in its old quarters in New Brunswick until 1963, when a new upper school building, constructed with the assistance of the Colgate-Palmolive Company, opened at Elm Farm.
A field house was built in 1968, and, shortly afterward, a center for early childhood education.
The new building, which is still in use, opened in 1985.
1988 - Kaufelt Fine Arts Center opens.
In 1992, Doctor Steven Loy became headmaster and embarked on a series of campus expansions funded by a capital campaign.
1994 - RPS named a 'Blue Ribbon School' by United States Department of Education.
2001 - Music Building opens.
2003 - Heinlein Wing in the Middle School is constructed on the footprint of the original high school wing that was lost in the fire.
2005 - Turf Field is constructed on Delapietro Field as one of the first artificial surfaces in the region.
2010 - International Homestay Program is launched for students from Jamaica, Mexico, Korea, and China.
2011 - Dining Commons is opened.
2012 - Learning Commons with 10 additional classrooms is opened.
2016 - 250th Anniversary of the School is celebrated.
2021 - The Innovation Academy at Rutgers Prep launches.
