Responsibilities

* The primary purpose of this position is the operation of a variety of heavy equipment for fire suppression activities.
* Follow detailed instructions and training to operate and service heavy equipment without causing injury to yourself, others and the vehicle/equipment.
* Operate one or more types of heavy equipment, such as graders, tractors with bulldozer or angle dozer blades, front-end loaders, backhoes, trench diggers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments to perform fire tasks.
* Ensure equipment is maintained in good working condition to complete preventive maintenance and minor repair of equipment as needed.
* Operate equipment on flat or rolling terrain, with few complicating factors and in confined areas when necessary.
* Adjust the heavy equipment attachments for proper level, angle, or depth, according to the work to be done and the type of equipment used.
* Operate equipment adjusting for the nature of the soil and features of the terrain to determine the proper approach to use heavy equipment according to the surface and subsurface conditions.
