Typical hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00pm with flexibility to work shifts between 730am to 6pm based on patient care needs and travel to office locations in Livingston, Stirling, and procedure locations in Essex County.
Essential Functions:
Support the physician by providing coverage with evaluation, treatment, and documentation of service for patients requiring orthopedic care in both the operating and office environment.
Assists physician during office hours including preoperative and postoperative instructions.
Provides dictation support and documentation of patient encounters and letters of Medical Necessity.
Prepares discharge letters and make post-op calls to referring physicians.
Reviews charts preoperatively and documents any pertinent information.
Provides coverage with residents, fellows and other advanced practitioners covering provider on-call schedules.
Liaisons between physician and outside consulting physicians regarding patient care.
Performs assessment and reassessment of the patient according to applicable department standards and identified tools.
Assists physician during hospital rounds with post-op patients and with research as needed.
Participates in and contributes to orthopedic educational activities for appropriate internal and external parties.

Job Overview:

Job Overview:
Under the direction of the manager, the Patient Handling Technician provides patient transfers to all types of patients using appropriate techniques/lifting devices. Documents all patient encounters, as well as verbally communicates with nurses, physical therapists and occupational therapists when needed.
Qualifications:
Required:
* High school diploma, successful completion of department orientation program
Preferred:
* College Graduate preferred
Scheduling Requirements
* Shift: Day
* Status: Per Diem
* Time: Sundays from 9:30a.m.-5:00p.m. (Also, some occasional weekday availability to cover staff PTO)
Essential Functions:
* Assists in development of daily schedule as directed by his/her supervisor.
* Assists in the orientation and training of new department members.
* Attends department meetings and in-service as required.
* Communicates appropriately with supervisors and keeps them informed of issues, problems, concerns. (i.e. patient care, administration, scheduling)
* Demonstrates knowledge of precautions regarding oxygen tanks/lines, port a catheter, Picc lines, central lines, etc.
* Demonstrates proper body mechanics while working with patients and equipment.
* Documents daily, both on the computer and in the logbook, all patient encounters.
* Maintains adequate productivity levels, as determined by the supervisor.
* Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfecting of lifting equipment as needed.
* Performs office tasks as necessary, demonstrates appropriate telephone skills and relays/acts upon information in a timely manner.
* Performs other tasks as directed by his/her supervisor or the department director.
* Provides patient transfers to all types of patients throughout the medical center.
* Seeks guidance from the primary nurse regarding current patient status and relates pertinent patient information back to the RN and/or PT/OT.
* Understands and implements the patient's weight-bearing and orthopedic precautions, as well as consults with physical or occupational therapists regarding difficult or unusual circumstances.
* Utilizes appropriate techniques and demonstrates proper use of lifting devices to ensure safe handling of patients. Checks patients for signs of distress following transfer.
* Works schedule as assigned by the supervisor.
