Job Overview:
The Patient Care Technician assists professional staff in performing direct patient care tasks. Provides direct patient care as delegated by nursing and therapy staff and directed by the patient care plan.Qualifications:

Essential Functions:
* Provides direct patient care as delegated by nursing and therapy staff and directed by the patient care plan. Care activities functions include but are not limited to:
* Bedside carryover tasks (ROM, assistive standing devices, adaptive equipment, ADL care, special positioning techniques, splints|contracture care, bladder retraining)
* Bathing
* Safe patient transport, positioning and transfer
* Pool support (transfers, dressing, showering)
* Participation in treatment sessions| groups (set|up and clean|up, supply retrieval)
* Supervision of patient individual exercise programs
* Active participation in therapy groups and special events
* Use of patient and therapy equipment
* Ensuring that patients have their recommended adaptive equipment available and coaching them in its use
* Reporting lack of and|or missing equipment and supplies to appropriate personnel
* Takes patient vital signs
* Patient feeding (set up, checking diet, accurately recording intake and output, feeding patients when necessary, supervision)
* Assists in patient supervision to ensure safety
* Responsible for communicating with nursing and therapy staff regarding patient care
* Documents in electronic medical record as needed
* Performs all duties with a customer service focus while recognizing and respecting cultural differences
* Responsible for taking inventory, stocking and organizing therapy and nursing supplies|equipment and notifying manager|supervisor of any needs
* Assists with laundry, makes patient beds and organizes bedside
* Maintain equipment calibration logs
* Practices infection control procedures in changing suction canisters and cleaning of equipment and toys using hospital approved disinfectant. Complete infection control log as necessary
* Assists with clerical duties as needed (i.e. answering phones, copying, hanging scheduling)
* Assists with orientation of new staff and volunteers
* Continual contact with patients, families, visitors and all hospital departments and staff
* Contact with medications, chemicals and equipment
* Consistently appraises clinical performance and learning needs through self-evaluation. Exhibits consistent professional behavior and is accountable for actions with regard to professional issues
* Guides, assists and serves as a role model for LPNs, nurse externs, nursing assistants, nursing students and new staff
* Assumes the role of relief charge nurse. Keeps nursing supervisor informed of patient needs and problems. Demonstrates effective problem-solving skills

The Patient Care Technician PCT functions under the direct supervision of a professional nurse. The PCT functions as a member of the health care team and performs selected patient care activities under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse, is responsible for identified critical unit support activities as directed. He/she performs specific duties and is considered an integral part of the nursing team. He/she will assist the nurse in gathering information and making observations regarding the patient s condition. PCTs are also expected to comply with hospital policies on confidentiality, infection control, and compassionate care. Is responsible for reporting identified safety issues such as hazardous environments, i.e., damaged floors/walls/ceiling tiles/unsecured areas, medical errors, etc. This Per Diem position is required to work a minimum of four shifts in a month / One weekend, and rotating holidays. Required to work every other weekend and rotating holidays; No set schedules.

Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or GED equivalent required within one year of hire.
* Enrolled in a Nursing Program, current EMT certification, Medical Assistant Certified, Phlebotomist Certified, EKG tech or equivalent.
* BLS certification through American Heart Association.
* Prior hospital experience preferred.
* Work under the direction of the RN to provide care to the patients on the unit.
* Utilizes communication skills, good interpersonal skills, time management, and problem-solving skills.
* Able to prioritize and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
* Computer proficient knowledge and skill in computer software, including Electronic Medical Record charting, Microsoft Office Outlook, etc., and be familiar with office-based/clinical electronic devices such as printers, scanners, fax machines, virtual conference tools, ect.
Essential Functions:
* A direct patient caregiver who assists patients with activities of daily living and provides care to patients include but are not limited to: Taking vital signs, EKG'S, performing phlebotomy, assisting or providing patients with bedside care, ie, bathing, mouth care, skin care, feeding, serves prepared meals and ambulating.
* Providing patient care, based on physical, education, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients in assigned service.
* Providing for effective and safe patient outcomes through practice, judgment and critical actions.
* Ongoing communication with patients and nursing colleagues regarding status of patient's care.
* Participating in collaboration of our patient's plan of care from ad mission to discharge to ensure safe transitioning.
* Maintains a safe and clean environment.
* Monitors patient safety.
* Provides stimulating activities for patients to participate in, i.e., board games, simple repetitious tasks, videos, etc
* Provides companionship and conversation with the patient.
* Monitors patient activity at all times; recognizes emergent or potential emergent situations and responds appropriately.
* Seeks guidance from the primary nurse regarding current patient status and relates pertinent patient information back to the RN.
* Refers questionable issues to the RN/Charge nurse or designee for resolution.
* Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfecting of equipment as needed.
* Must be able to work independently and complete assignments with minimal supervision.

* Provides patient transfers to all types of patients throughout the medical center.
* Seeks guidance from the primary nurse regarding current patient status and relates pertinent patient information back to the RN and/or PT/OT.
* Understands and implements the patient's weight-bearing and orthopedic precautions, as well as consults with physical or occupational therapists regarding difficult or unusual circumstances.
* Utilizes appropriate techniques and demonstrates proper use of lifting devices to ensure safe handling of patients. Checks patients for signs of distress following transfer.
* Works schedule as assigned by the supervisor.

* Deletes alarm histories after printing.
* On the night shift, retrieves samples acquired during the previous 24 hours for the patient's chart under the "Cardiology" section.
* Retains the telemetry record in the binder for additional documentation.
* Prints all remaining samples when telemetry discontinued.
* Discharges patient from the central station.
* Communication
* Maintains communication with the RN of assigned unit and remote nursing units.

* Communicates and records pertinent information to appropriate individuals. Record vital signs and bedside glucose testing results. Documents accurately and legibly on appropriate records. Collects specimens; labels accurately and ensures delivery to appropriate department
* Prepares patient for monitoring using proper techniques in electrode placement. Removes and discontinues telemetry transmitter from patients being discharged or transferred
* Cleans and disinfects equipment following procedures as assigned. Orders all supplies needed from the storeroom and central supply. Stocks all supplies in appropriate locations and reports all shortages to the charge nurse
* May work in areas where medications are stored. This includes checking for expiration dates for kits, trays with meds, IV fluids, needles, etc. rotating and stocking other supplies. Occasionally, transporting the tray/kit for the nurse or physician to provide patient care

Job Overview:
The Telemetry Technician oversees and interprets the cardiac monitor for arrhythmias and changes in heart rhythm.
The Telemetry Unit is a 38-bed, team-oriented unit that provides a wide variety of Medical/Surgical and diagnostic services to a diverse cardiac population i.e. congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, respiratory compromise and dysrhythmias.
Qualifications:
Required:
* HS Diploma or GED
* Completion of a cardiovascular technology course or successful completion of a telemetry/monitor technician course
* Must have the ability to examine heartbeat patterns, noting heartbeat irregularities in real time and ensuring the heart monitors are functioning correctly
Preferred:
* At least one year of telemetry/monitoring work experience
Certifications and Licenses Required:
* Basic Life Support(BLS) through the American Heart Association

Essential Functions:
* Promotes and implements the concept of patient and family-centered care. Promotes a compassionate and supportive environment
* Observes and reports to the Registered Nurse patient's response to intervention/treatments. Knows how to activate code system. Gives report on cardiac rhythm to physicians and RN as request. Gives report to oncoming telemetry technician or relief RN. Reports to RN all rhythm changes; also physicians if available. Consults with RN when in doubt of rhythm.
* Communicates and records pertinent information to appropriate individuals. Record vital signs and bedside glucose testing results. Documents accurately and legibly on appropriate records. Collects specimens; labels accurately and ensures delivery to appropriate department
* Prepares patient for monitoring using proper techniques in electrode placement. Removes and discontinues telemetry transmitter from patients being discharged or transferred
* Cleans and disinfects equipment following procedures as assigned. Orders all supplies needed from the storeroom and central supply. Stocks all supplies in appropriate locations and reports all shortages to the charge nurse
* May work in areas where medications are stored. This includes checking for expiration dates for kits, trays with meds, IV fluids, needles, etc. rotating and stocking other supplies. Occasionally, transporting the tray/kit for the nurse or physician to provide patient care
