Job Overview:
Responsible for the preparation, set-up, troubleshooting and coordination of services and repair for all clinical equipment in the Operating Room. Participates in the care, preparation and maintenance of equipment and supplies in the OR. Participates in the set-up, opening and breakdown of a case in the OR.
Qualification
Required:
* Graduate of an accredited high school BLS certification required.
* Knowledge of computer systems preferred.
* Must possess excellent manual dexterity and excellent hearing and visual acuity. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.
* Must perform duties effectively in stressful/emergency situations.
* Must work independently and complete assignments with minimal supervision.
* Assists in transporting patients to and from the OR.

Job Overview:
The Telemetry Technician oversees and interprets the cardiac monitor for arrhythmias and changes in heart rhythm.
The Telemetry Technician documents patient monitoring data that include rhythm strips and measurements, reports abnormal rhythm or rate, changes in rhythm, applies the telemetry leads accurately, and is able to perform EKG. The Telemetry Technician provides updates of telemetry readings, ensures that the telemetry equipment is functioning well, cleans the tele, troubleshoots and maintains it to prevent malfunctions.
The Telemetry Unit is a 38-bed, team-oriented unit that provides a wide variety of Medical/Surgical and diagnostic services to a diverse cardiac population i.e. congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, respiratory compromise and dysrhythmias.
Qualifications:
Required:
* HS Diploma or GED
* Completion of a cardiovascular technology course or successful completion of a telemetry/monitor technician course
* Must have the ability to examine heartbeat patterns, noting heartbeat irregularities in real time and ensuring the heart monitors are functioning correctly
Preferred:
* At least one year of telemetry/monitoring work experience
Certifications and Licenses Required:
* Basic Life Support(BLS) through the American Heart Association
Scheduling Requirements:
* Shift working, 11pm-7:30am every other weekend, and a weekday night shift

Essential Functions:
* Promotes and implements the concept of patient and family-centered care. Promotes a compassionate and supportive environment
* Observes and reports to the Registered Nurse patient's response to intervention/treatments. Knows how to activate code system. Gives report on cardiac rhythm to physicians and RN as request. Gives report to oncoming telemetry technician or relief RN. Reports to RN all rhythm changes; also physicians if available. Consults with RN when in doubt of rhythm.
* Communicates and records pertinent information to appropriate individuals. Record vital signs and bedside glucose testing results. Documents accurately and legibly on appropriate records. Collects specimens; labels accurately and ensures delivery to appropriate department
* Prepares patient for monitoring using proper techniques in electrode placement. Removes and discontinues telemetry transmitter from patients being discharged or transferred
* Cleans and disinfects equipment following procedures as assigned. Orders all supplies needed from the storeroom and central supply. Stocks all supplies in appropriate locations and reports all shortages to the charge nurse
* May work in areas where medications are stored. This includes checking for expiration dates for kits, trays with meds, IV fluids, needles, etc. rotating and stocking other supplies. Occasionally, transporting the tray/kit for the nurse or physician to provide patient care
* Maintains inventory of telemetry transmitters each shift. Run, interpret, and post EKG strips within 3 hours of start of shift. Maintain integrity of telemetry packs (wires, batteries, covers)
* Provides and maintains a safe environment and performs proper surveillance for the prevention of falls for patients at risk. Identifies equipment problems and contacts appropriate departments for repair/replacement
* Attends meetings and departmental programs as requested. Participates in inter and intra-departmental activities
* Maintains adequate coverage of monitors at all times. Maintains alarms on at all times. Completes all monitoring activities by the end of the shift. Completes documentation on telemetry mount sheets each shift. Makes rounds to verify patient status every two hours and PRN
* Greets and assists physicians, hospital staff, patients and visitors with questions. Answers phone in a courteous manner
* Perform other duties as directed

* American Heart Association CPR required
* Certification following satisfactory passing grade in the RWJUH Monitor Technician and EKG course

* Attends the central monitoring station on a constant basis.
* Attaches lead and activates telemetry transmitter, then enters patient's information in the central monitoring station and activates alarms.

* Saves a sample rhythm for each patient and prints the sample on the laser printer at beginning of each shift.
* Attaching and removing telemetry transmitter from patients
* Responsible for attaching and removing telemetry transmitter from patient i.e.. RN and PCT will assist when census is high
* Obtain patients name from secretary
* Always maintain patients confidentiality and privacy
* Introduces self to patient and family and wear appropriate RWJ ID.
* Always check with RN prior to removing transmitter
* Daily job responsibilities
* Interprets and initials each patients cardiac rhythm sample with PR, QRS, and QT intervals.
* Records interpretation on the telemetry record and files the sample behind the telemetry record in the binder.
* Reviews alarm histories three times per shift.
* Prints pertinent alarm samples and files in record.
* Deletes alarm histories after printing.
* On the night shift, retrieves samples acquired during the previous 24 hours for the patient's chart under the "Cardiology" section.
* Retains the telemetry record in the binder for additional documentation.
* Prints all remaining samples when telemetry discontinued.
* Discharges patient from the central station.
* Communication
* Maintains communication with the RN of assigned unit and remote nursing units.
* Notes any changes in patient rhythms and reports them immediately to the primary nurse and records these changes for the nurse and physician to review.
* Telemetry transmitter maintenance
* Manages telemetry equipment and monitor supplies.
* Orders batteries, paper and electrodes as needed.
* Removes batteries from the transmitter, cleans the transmitter and lead sets with germicidal wipes and stores the transmitter and leads in appropriate storage drawer.

* Deletes alarm histories after printing.
* On the night shift, retrieves samples acquired during the previous 24 hours for the patient's chart under the "Cardiology" section.
* Retains the telemetry record in the binder for additional documentation.
* Prints all remaining samples when telemetry discontinued.

* Maintains communication with the RN of assigned unit and remote nursing units.

Job Overview:
The Monitoring Technician is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and/or clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. The technician delivers telemetry to in patient units and performs monitor connection/discharge, patient preparation, and teaching related to the monitor.
Qualifications:
Required:
* High school graduate or equivalent
* BLS for Healthcare Provider certification required through American Heart Association.
Preferred:
* Telemetry and/or successful completion of a cardiac dysrhythmia course preferred
Scheduling Requirements

Job Overview:
Performs hearing screening tasks specified by supervising Audiologist for all designated infants prior to discharge. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or Director of PM&R.
Qualification
Required:
* Complete training with adequate demonstration of competency-based skills necessary to perform specific hearing or specific tasks assigned.
* CPR certification Successful completion of all Orientation Programs.
Scheduling Requirements (non-exempt positions):
* Per Diem
* Day
* Per Diem Policy 2 shifts per month minimum
Essential Functions:
* Assists Manager of Speech & Hearing Center or Supervisor as requested, in assigned duties
* Completes records or logs as required.
* Maintains patient confidentiality.
* Notifies program supervisor of low supplies or equipment malfunction.
* Operating screening device according to specified instructions and training and/or certification program.
* Performs daily equipment checks and maintains equipment in good condition.
* Recognizes unusual occurrences or potential problems and reporting these to the audiologist, nurse manager, and/or other designated persons.
* Record results of screening and provides information to appropriate personnel.
* Reports to nursery at scheduled time(s).
* Representing competency exceeding the operation of a screening device.
* Selecting and preparing infants for screening based upon program policies and nursery requirements.
* Wearing hospital identification at all times with name and title clearly visible.
