S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Engineering Services and Grid Enablement function. As a Project Engineer, you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team. The Project Engineer will be responsible for leading engineering efforts, electrical system design, power system controls design and programming, preparing specifications and commissioning efforts to meet the requirements of various microgrid and advanced SCADA projects. The role will be a combination of power system engineering, SCADA engineering and microgrid control applications. Projects include commercial and industrial facilities, renewable energy sites, microgrid systems, distribution automation systems and standalone islanded systems. The candidate is expected to provide support on proposal development and assist the commercial team with new business opportunities. Key Responsibilities: Design: Power distribution system design, including specifying and selecting power system and communication system equipment. Interrupting written scopes of work, communicating with clients to understand requirements and clearly defining engineering work. Drawings: Developing electrical drawings including one-line, three-line, communication and wiring diagrams. Documentation: Documentation and communicating effectively to internal and external stakeholders including report writing and summary presentations. Control: Designing control systems and logic, including determining and implementing appropriate control sequences. Leadership: Providing appropriate technical guidance to engineers within the project teams to ensure design standards and work practices are implemented. Developing standard work practices for use by the other project team members. Implementation: Developing settings for and programming of microprocessor relays, microgrid controllers and programmable logic controllers. Testing and commissioning of software, communication systems, relays and power systems (on-site or remote support). Standards: Interpreting and applying industry standards and requirements including NERC, FERC, IEEE, IEC standards and international power markets processes and regulations. What you'll Need To Succeed: Job Requirements (To select this job at a minimum you must have the following): Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical field plus 6-10 years of experience in the field. Depth of knowledge with SCADA systems and communication protocols Modbus and DNP3. Knowledge of codes and standards including NEC, NESC and other relevant power system standards. Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills. Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Experience commissioning power system projects. Experience with electrical power generation, distribution and/or microgrids. Familiarity with substation IEDs. Strong hands-on deburring capability on hardware; strong system level integration ability. Able to travel to project and/or customer sites up to 20% of the time, with occasional trip durations exceeding 7 days. Good interpersonal skills to establish meaningful relationships built on mutual trust and respect, navigate and resolve conflict, moderate behaviors and foster collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse audience. Good communication skills (written, verbal, listening and presentation). Able to liaise with key stakeholders in technical and non-technical roles. Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.) including excellent Excel skills and experience using Power BI or a related tool. As an Project Engineer, you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team. The Polymer Products operations at S&C is a world leader for manufacturing medium voltage epoxy insulation products. The engineering team at Polymer Products supports operations team to achieve the yield goals through process controls, mold designs, and trainings; seeks continuous improvement with manufacturing processes, mold designs, tools, and equipment through improvement and capital projects; addresses and resolves quality concerns observed with manufactured products through problem-solving activities; and supports new product/process development through design, procurement, installation, and startup. The candidate considered for this position will work on-site at S&C Headquarters in Chicago, Illinois supporting the Polymer Products process engineering team and report to the Assistant Manager-Manufacturing Engineering. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide high quality engineering support to the operations team towards achieving the target yield and scrap goals by identifying and resolving operations issues. Improve operational efficiency and reliability through continuous improvement of processes, tools/equipment, manufactured products, and automation. Design and create drawings and models for new tooling/fixture/mechanical systems or improvements to the existing tooling/fixture/mechanical systems according to manufacturing needs using a 3D CAD modelling software. Write detailed specifications for the tooling/process design sought for effective translation during request for quote, procurement, build, installation, and start up Effectively plan, coordinate, and supervise tooling/process equipment installation and startup. Conduct experiments, collect and analyze process data using statistical tools, write clear, concise engineering test reports describing the test procedures, results, analyses, and conclusions. Create instruction bulletins or process specification procedures for standard work practices related to manufacturing tooling/processes. Occasionally, provide support to the maintenance team in troubleshooting process, tool, and equipment problems.
