S&ME is looking for an eager and dedicated full-time Field Geologist to support drilling operations at various locations for our client, Southern Company, in Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia. As a Field Geologist, you will primarily be responsible for technical direction and successful execution of subsurface field investigations in support of engineering site assessments, environmental studies, and foundation remediation. Your Day-to-Day: * Field oversight for monitoring well installation programs, foundation investigations, underground utility investigations, or related projects * Perform soil and rock logging * Prepare professional logs for soil, rock, and monitoring well construction data * Manage drilling and other related contractors according to company guidelines and procedures * Interface with various customers and assist Drilling Services leaders and internal drilling resources to facilitate field investigations You will report to Southern Company's Logan Martin Dam office in Vincent, Alabama, for weekly scheduled projects and locations. Extensive travel is required. You will typically travel to each site directly from your home. A company truck will be provided. Southern Company will cover travel expenses. Key knowledge, skills, and attributes for success in this role include experience in field investigations utilizing various drilling methods, soil and rock logging, environmental sampling and testing methods, regulatory knowledge, and project budget management. Proficiency in the gINT Boring Log Program and flexible computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Additionally, the role requires strong oral and written communication skills, the ability to work with limited supervision, a safety-first mindset, and strong customer focus and conflict resolution skills.
