With centralization came a blank canvas of historical significance, and in 1955, a citizen’s committee was established to help the District move forward in harmony and to decide a new name.
The district did not officially open until 1955.
An occasional piece about the foundation of buildings in the Sachem Central School District To accommodate Holbrook’s growing student population at the time, construction of a new elementary school was authorized in 1955.
In 1956 Grundy Avenue Elementary, Lynwood Avenue Elementary, and Sachem Jr./Sr.
The Sachem Central School District graduated its’ first class in 1959 and since then there have been over 60,000 graduates who now proudly call themselves Sachem alumni.
The voters approved a new school district public library in 1961, adopting the name of the new centralized school district: Sachem.

Land was acquired on Holbrook Road in Holbrook and a new library building opened in 1966.
