Middle Georgia printing company is looking for Saddle Stitcher/Bindery Operators. Responsibilities include the operation and routine maintenance of binding machines. A qualified applicant should be able to complete job orders and meet all quality standards after 90 days of training on the machine. Machine operation and mechanical knowledge is essential. This position is open for 3 shifts. shift will be negotiated at hire.

Education

Employees at this level must have a high school diploma or advanced technical school training.

Experience

3 years of successful employment in a production environment.

Skills and Abilities

• You should have the ability to read and interpret work instructions, safety guidelines, job instructions and other work related material
• You must be able to communicate with other manufacturing and warehouse employees verbally and via computer, entering basic data into system including time sheet information
• You should have the ability to perform basic math in set ups
• A strong mechanical aptitude
• Familiarity with manufacturing environment, operation of moving equipment

• You should be able to follow written and verbal instructions
• You should work safely to prevent on-the-job injuries
• You should be familiar with small tool adjustments, use of lift equipment

Our compressed work schedule is geared toward balancing work and family life. You will work 3 to 4, 12 hour days a week with opportunities for overtime (OT paid after 40 hours per week). These shifts rotate throughout the year (either 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. - 7 a.m.) including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Position Overview:

Quad is seeking Saddle Stitch Operators for The Rock, Georgia plant. Experience with Goss/Heidelberg, Muller Martini 301 , Tempo 301 and Supra 301, 400 experience highly desirable. Will consider candidates that have run other types of Saddle Stitch equipment as well.

Job Duties include but are not limited to:

+ Operate machine effectively and safely according to standards to ensure a quality product

+ Perform and document preventative and routine maintenance as needed or assigned

+ Make-ready the stacker, tiers, mail head, mail control

+ Make-ready and run all aspects of the saddle stitcher (pockets, gatherer, stitcher heads, in feed, trimmer, mail table and mail head, etc...)

+ Make-ready and run demographic and inkjet

+ Fill in for other master operators when needed

+ Assist other master operators with start-ups as possible when own line is down

+ Support material handlers during continuous and self-supported running (including mail-sacking, skid stacking, pocket filling, cover filling, etc.) and give work direction during downtime and clean-up

+ Read and understand binding instructions, mailing instructions, and support the BCS system

+ Ensure proper functioning of safety devices (i.e. guards, stop buttons)

+ Maintain a safe and clean work environment

+ Perform additional tasks as needed or assigned

Qualifications

+ Demonstrated skill in mechanics/mechanical aptitude

+ Ability to read and interpret binding / mailing instructions and operating / maintenance manuals

+ Knowledge of department safety practices

+ Good understanding of all Bindery functions/procedures

+ Good understanding of co-palletization process, demographics, and selective binding processes

+ Good understanding of primary causes and remedies for various quality problems

+ Ability to recognize, identify, analyze, and communicate problem situation and/or factors

+ Basic computer skills including a good understanding of BCS System

+ Willingness to move to other machines

+ Willingness to work overtime on unscheduled days

+ Good organizational and time management skills

+ Strong communication skills; both oral and written

+ Ability to work easily and productively with others and with minimal supervision

+ You will work a compressed 3 and 4 day work week geared toward balancing work and family life ( 12 hour rotating shift (either 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. or 7 p.m. - 7 a.m.) including days, nights, weekends, and holidays). Other shift options may also be available

+ Essential functions of this job include the following: the ability to lift 10-15 pounds continuously, the ability to lift up to 70 pounds occasionally, stand long hours, use hands and wrists continuously in controlled movement, receive and follow instructions and use vision in order to identify defects

• Quantity needed to ship
• How many forms make up a book
• Does book contain 4,8, 16, or 32-page signatures
• What boxes and pallets are required for shipping
• Does the job require shrink wrapping, how many per package
• How many books and shrink-wrapped packages go in a box
• Check for any special binding instructions like drilling or inserting.
• How many stitches are required in a book

Specific Functions of Apprentice I.S.T. Operators

• Make sure a sample of the form is placed on the bar in front of and above the pocket holding the corresponding form
• Make sure the correct number of stitches are used.
• Make sure finished book size is correct
• Check finished book for any missed bleeds.
• Check that finished book opens at the head, foot and thumb.
• Check page sequence before starting run.
• Must be able to set up pockets for CD's and B.R.C. cards.
• Must be able to repair stitcher heads when required.
• Know how to change trimmer knives.

• Know how to make minor repairs and adjustments and perform scheduled maintenance.
• Make sure correct number of samples are provided.
• Ability to work with large number of people in a crew.

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift 50lbs.
• Good math and reading skills
• Requires long periods if standing, bending and lifting.

Other Requirements

• Flexible schedule, able to work overtime and weekends.
• Ability to direct co-workers in safety and quality standards
• Good communication skills.
• All or any duties necessary for the operation and maintenance of the 1st.
• Drug test required
• Must watch the safety video and take the test

1st shift Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday OR Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 1st shift 3:00am - 3:00pm, 2nd shift 3:00pm - 3:00am


$18.00 - $20.00 DOE, would need to start a 2 yr apprenticeship
