Safe Haven School is seeking a Middle School Special Education Teacher. Safe Haven School is a private therapeutic day school that serves students with average to above-average ability levels. Students suffer from anxiety, depression, trauma, self-injury, and/or work or school refusal and do not present as physically or verbally aggressive. This position will also entail case management of up to ten students. Candidates must be able to effectively collaborate with paraprofessionals, social workers, and other teachers, communicate with families, collect data, develop IEPs, write academic progress reports, create and implement lesson plans, and creatively problem solve. The ideal candidate will effectively establish trust and rapport with students, families, and staff, be comfortable as a contributing member of a team. Must possess a B.A. or M.A. in special education and have an Illinois Professional Education License with Special Education endorsement.

Position Summary
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Licensed Special Education Teacher develops and provides specialized instruction to meet the unique needs of students; Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives; follows State mandates and functions as IEP Manager to assigned students. Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:
Areas of Responsability
Instruction
1. Collaborate and consult with the Executive Director to establish curriculum goals, objectives, activities, and evaluation methods in accordance with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) performance standards and descriptors
2. Implement and evaluate the Safe Haven School curriculum to ensure the individual needs of students are being met, to ensure compliance with ISBE standards, and to ensure compliance with public school requirements
3. Integrate experiential learning in content areas to enhance student learning through critical thinking, problem-solving, cooperative learning, and application to everyday life
4. Provide individualized and group instruction to assigned students consistent with IEP goals and objectives, Accommodations and Modifications, student learning assessments, and state standards and descriptors
5. Coordinate and consult with Executive Director for guidance in remediation, support, and enrichment to assigned students
6. Implement modifications and accommodations as specified in students' IEPs
7. Assess and evaluate student understanding and knowledge
8. Administer state assessments and progress monitoring
Case Management
1. Plan, develop, and implement the individualized educational plans
2. Complete all required reports and documentation for assigned students within established time frames
3. Coordinate case management with Clinical Case Managers to:
· Review student progress
· Plan and develop effective instructional and behavioral techniques and strategies to enhance student learning
· Propose IEP revisions
· Update the Case Management Team in writing any significant changes in students' academic or behavior
4. Maintain daily attendance records and weekly lesson plans
5. Provide feedback to assigned students regarding academic and behavioral progress
6. Attend all meetings and conferences for assigned students
7. Prepare materials for all meetings and conferences for assigned students
8. Maintain student records for assigned students consistent with ISBE regulations
9. Responsible for supervision of assigned students at all times throughout the day
10. Maintain communication with parents.
11. Complete and communicate Weekly grades with parents and Social Workers
12. Maintain student/classroom data
Build a positive learning environment
1. Maintain a therapeutic environment within the classroom
2. Contribute to a positive school culture
3. Maintain safety throughout the school day
4. Communicate student or classroom issues with the teachers, social worker, and administration.
5. Maintains a positive attitude
Maintain classroom/school organization
1. Maintain classroom cleanliness and organization
2. Create bulletin boards
3. Complete tasks that contribute to the schoolwide organization
4. Provide guidance and direction to the paraprofessional

General
1. Attend all staff meetings, consultations, conferences, and staff development activities
2. Obtain prior approval from Executive Director for all program expenditures and submit approved purchase orders and receipts to Educational Director/Executive Director
3. Maintain the classroom in a manner conducive to learning and safety
4. Maintain confidential materials in a secure, locked space
5. Monitor student use of all school equipment and materials
6. Maintain professional boundaries with assigned students and staff members
7. DCFS-mandated reporter
8. Maintains ISBE licensure and compliance expectations
9. Maintains attendance and punctuality
10. Maintains required paperwork
11. Presents positively and professionally in appearance and demeanor
12. Maintain expectations as stated in the employee handbook.
Professional Growth
Maintain involvement in the field of special education by staying current with research and developments in the field by reading professional journals and books, participating in staff development activities sponsored by Safe Haven School, and by attending professional development opportunities sponsored by organizations other than Safe Haven School.
Completes additional tasks as required

Starting salary $55000.00 yearly (BA, no experience)
