We are looking for a Health, Safety and Environment Specialist to support our manufacturing operations in Rochester, NY as part of our WW Health, Safety and Environment Team.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
1. Oversee health and safety programs including process safety management, respiratory protection, hearing conservation, personal protective equipment, hazard communication, laser safety, ionizing radiation, Control of Hazardous Energy (LO/TO), electrical safety, machine/web conveyance safeguarding, fall protection, confined space, & contractor safety reviews.
2. Oversee environmental compliance programs and reporting obligations required the U.S. EPA.
3. Participate in incident and near miss investigations, review and analyze data, identify trends and improvement opportunities to prevent/reduce incidents.
4. Participate in management of change reviews and job hazard analyses to identify/evaluate hazards and recommend controls.
5. Provide HSE training to employees.
6. Conduct audits to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and prevailing professional standards and practices.
7. Provide HSE support for new product development/product change management.
8. Provide technical guidance to management on a large variety of workplace HSE issues.
Requirements:
• Knowledge of federal, state, local health, safety and environment requirements (OSHA, air, water, waste).

Develop KPIs to monitor and audit SMS performance.

Provide SME guidance for safety policies, procedures, rigorous safety risk assessments, hazard evaluations, risk correction/control, monitoring, safety assurance processes, training and safety promotion across the Business in coordination with global GE Aerospace business activities and priorities.
Ensure integration of human factors principles to drive design, production and maintenance improvements in order to eliminate human error in products and services.
Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation within GE Aerospace, with external industry partners, suppliers and regulators.
Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve SMS performance, products, processes or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may inform work.
Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology, services or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Provide consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to institute or improve SMS within manufacturing sites, product centers, suppliers, or repair facilities.
Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 6 years of experience in Job Family Group(s)/Function(s)).
Minimum of 3 years of industry experience in aerospace or aviation

Discuss safety with the on-site Subcontractors Supervisory Personnel

Develop and maintain all training programs and safeguards for new equipment/process
Research and procure items needed for plant safety improvements
Organize and maintain all new hire safety training and compliance acknowledgments
Conduct and maintain all annual training, including forklift driving certifications, first-aid certifications, LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out) certifications, etc)
Understand and reference all applicable OSHA regulations
Ensure plant is OSHA compliant
Familiarity with all other AHJ (Authorities Having Jurisdiction) is imperative to maintain applicable compliance (NFPA, ANSI, NEC, NIOSH, etc.)
Enforce compliance of PPE and all other safe work practices to promote a positive and lasting Safety Culture
Keep plant stocked with proper safety supplies and PPE
Perform monthly plant safety audits and maintain all regulated frequent inspections
Verify routine equipment inspections are properly conducted and compliance is maintained in all areas of the plant by all employees
Ensure all safeguards are in place and working properly
Ensure all workstations and tasks are free of hazards
Conduct and report all incident investigations and determine root cause and corrective plans
First Aid response and treatment for employee injuries including transporting injured workers to seek medical treatment when needed
Guide employees through the workers compensation process alongside plant HR, maintaining records and facilitating all restrictions
Accurate and concise record keeping of all safety related documents and processes including but not limited to training records, SOPS, SDS, and OSHA abatement documents.
Job Requirements:
0-5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment with a focus on quality
4-year technical degree mechanical or mechanical engineering technology, Fire Protection Safety Engineering technology, Environmental health and safety sciences etc.
Self-starter and with solid communication
Manufacturing experience preferred
Focus on process improvement and lean related principles (Kaizen, 5/6 S, 6 Sigma, etc.)
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work standing for extended periods of time
Required to use ladder, forklift or other means to acquire parts for product assembly
Able to use power & hand tools, as well as electrical testing and measuring equipment
Ability to lift 35 to 50 pounds independently

$65k-$85k base, negotiable dependent on experience, with additional monthly bonus based on productivity and profits.
