Location: This position demands full-time, on-site presence. The primary work-site will be one of our Lake Orion, MI plant, with occasional travel to our Corporate office in Redford, MI. Remote work options are not available for this role.
Responsibilities
Works closely with staff in operations, engineering, human resources, and other functions to provide technical environmental safety and health support and direction to corporate and production personnel.
Develops annual company EH&S goals and updates monthly metrics.
Develops and delivers curriculum for New Hire Orientation and other EH&S training.
Directs the development of written environmental, safety and health programs and policies (Safety Committee, Safety Assessment Audit Program, Work Conditioning Program, Wellness programs).
Participates in new product/process reviews, including process hazard analyses, operator training, etc.
Supports corporate/plant engineering to implement engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards.
Supports plant personnel in selection of appropriate personal protective equipment.
Maintains corporate EH&S library (e.g., videos, regulations, reference manuals).
Promotes EH&S awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters and specific training programs.
Serves as member of the Executive Environmental Health & Safety committee.
Leads implementation of a hazard communication program and preparation of reports.
Reviews process-operating procedures/records and provides input for environmental safety and health considerations.
Understands federal and state environmental safety and health regulations and monitors regulatory changes as they occur.
Provides technical support to corporate and plant personnel to ensure compliance with applicable environmental safety and health regulations.
Advises manufacturing plants and corporate staff of regulatory changes with which the plants must comply. Advance notice should be provided so that compliance on the effective date of new regulations is ensured.
Audits practices and records of manufacturing plants to ensure compliance with company programs and federal/state environmental safety and health regulations.
Monitors lost-time injuries/illnesses and worker's compensation claims.
Conducts Worker's Compensation loss review with Plant controller.
Reviews plant safety committee meeting minutes and safety inspection reports and follows up as necessary.
Reviews injury/illness and noninjury incident investigation reports and follows up as necessary.
Qualifications
Six years' experience performing in a Safety Engineer / Manager role in a related assembly environment are required
A Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in a related field
Previous experience and the ability to recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate action with firmness and tact.
Experience and a solid understanding of applicable federal, state and local safety regulations and industry standards, including ANSI B 11.19, RIA 15.06, OSHA 1910, EN 954-1 (+), EN13849-1, OSHA 1910.147, NFPA 70E, OSHA 1910.132, NEC Article 110.16.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) at an advance level
Possess a strong work ethic with absolute integrity as well as the professional maturity necessary to gain the confidence of senior leaders within the company and the local communities

COPE OF ROLE
The EHS Specialist III is a hands-on, individual contributor role responsible for leading and executing EH&S activities at the Warren location, ensuring the safety of all employees and the protection of the environment through compliance with all federal, state, local, and Corporate regulations and policies. The incumbent will partner closely with operations leaders, HR, and the Regal Business Systems (RBS) Manager to ensure program integration into all aspects of the business. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a unionized environment and navigating the dynamics of union relations to ensure compliance and safety.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Drive a management-supported and employee-driven safety culture to proactively eliminate safety hazards through achievement of daily/monthly/annual safety goals.
Achieve significant improvement to top quartile performance in EH&S KPIs, including incidents, near misses, risk scores, audit findings, etc.
Ensure timely communication on critical metric and incident reporting, incident reduction activities, training, and employee involvement.
Participate in front-end process engineering events focusing on risk assessment, evaluation of new processes for safety and ergonomic considerations, and review of facility layouts for potential EH&S issues.
Actively lead, participate in, and sustain EH&S continuous improvement/kaizen activity.

Develop and lead safety orientation and scheduled/required safety training to comply with OSHA, Corporate and/or site protocols and procedures. Maintain required regulatory and agency-required paperwork and permits (i.e. OSHA logs, environmental permits, etc.) in a timely manner, and prepare related documents for signature.
Management of Safety Data Sheets (SDS)/Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and all fire and emergency response equipment.
Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal Environmental and Safety regulations.
Bachelor's degree with a focus in Environmental, Health, and Safety, or related studies in manufacturing, science, or engineering is required OR 7 years of experience.
Minimum 3 years of EH&S-related experience in a manufacturing environment is required, ideally in a unionized setting.
Experience developing EH&S systems, risk assessments, and process control tools is strongly desired.
Experience with ISO systems such as 14001, 45001, or other EH&S accreditations is strongly desired.
Experience with LEAN manufacturing, problem-solving techniques, and corrective action processes including 8D, Pareto Analysis, 5-Why technique, and other continuous improvement tools is strongly desired.
Knowledge of EH&S regulatory requirements at the federal and state level (e.g. OSHA, EPA), in addition to Corporate environmental and safety policies and procedures.
